I've got a 99 GSX and my check engine light came on today. At the time I was logging data and my laptop froze. I was not writing to the ECU, only logging data. I rebooted the laptop and went into ECMlink and checked but no codes were listed. I cleared it anyway but the engine light remained on. I turned the car off and on again but the light remains. I tried checking and unchecking all the possible DTC boxes but nothing helped.
Since I was already driving around I stopped at an advance auto and they were unable to connect with their OBD2 tool. It errored out each time they tried. I plugged ECMlink back in and was able to adjust idle, log data, etc without an issue.
Being new to DSM and to the ECMlink side of things does anyone have an idea of what to try to find out what this check engine light is all about?
Secondarily on the way home I heard some brake squeal (constant vs. the normal only when braking). It went away but when I stopped at a red light near my place the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I pumped it quickly and after 3 pumps it was back up to strong enough to stop the car (thankfully!!!). A block later it did the same thing, pedal on the floor and hardly any stopping power. Any thoughts on this? I'm thinking it could be a stuck caliper and/or brake fluid that boiled.
Thanks in advance for your help!
