I have a 99 Gs-t w/ a couple of mods wich are (apexi down pipe, thermal catback, greddy-s BOV, Injen intake, msd wires, ngk plugs, b&m shifter, ACT 2600 w/ xtreme pressure plate & hks turbo timer) I am running with stock tires. I have never timed my 1/4 mile. The new neon runs the 1/4 mile in 14.2. Do tyou think I can take it  :dsm:

Certain years are known as lemons in the chrysler community. Even the newer ones have had this problem. So now after years of this problem Dodge says "lets add boost"????
The car may have a different engine now but has had no time to prove itself long term. As far as kicking our asses at the track......
I have friends with over 10K invested into their N/T neons and after 14flat traction becomes a serious problem. Its like this with the Cavaliers or any comparable car. Dollar for Dollar, they could have built a faster car using a AWD DSM. As for the new neons using Slicks to challenge us... Thats always been chryslers other weakpoint....FWD transmissions coming apart or failing. This has been a problem from the mid 80s to present, again they never corrected the problem but now add more power....They say the neon is our cousin car but i would have to say "POOR COUSIN" as it hasnt got the better parts in the past our DSMs have generously recieved from Mitsu... Anyway i say enough with the Bull$#!@ and lets see what happens at the track this summer. My local track opens 4/2 and ill report any SRT sightings
:thumb:

that is a good point. its just like our cars with crankwalk. who would of known that our cars were gonna get it. not until the motors were broken in did this happen. a lot of cars do have problems. but for that theres warranty (except for crankwalk, stupid mitsubishi) and iisbernhard there is no need to make comments like the one you made. whipmastaflx was just making a point not, not flaming no one.

Hey dumbazz in 94 they didnt have ESI's f@g. The 1st gen. talons were a DL, ES, or a TSI. The 2nd gen. Talons were either the coupe, ESI, or a TSI. I would take my old 94 DL over that brand new turbocharged neon. I'll put down 50 bucks that says those ugly azz neons are gunna have so many problems later in the future. :talon:

before you say anymore stupid things, no one ever said a neon would beat an AWD DSM. a lightly modified AWD DSM would wipe it's ass with an SRT-4. we're just saying that SRT-4 would wipe it's ass with your N/T, and several other cars. we never said the SRT-4 was the fastest, nicest looking, best car on the market. nor did we compare the neon to a viper. we said for $20K, 223hp-250 ft/lbs with a 7 yr warrenty is pretty damn good, regardless if it's a neon or not. maybe you should stop bashing it cause "it's a neon" and accept that your 97 N/T isn't exactly God's gift to cars  you also say you bet those neon's will have problems in the future. heaven forbid a turbocharged 4 clyinder have problems (DSM), let alone crankwalk. but what good is a warrenty anyway... and as for hating on a fellow DSM'er? a 97 ESi has a 4g63? :shhh:

I'll put down $5k my shitty FWD car will allow you to see nothing but taillights, and only then if you have binoculars.

I'm sure Chrysler is using 80's technology in a 2003 car.

I agree with every thing you've said but your last statement its false. All 2nd gen. non turbos have a 420a engine buddy. (sad to say but its the same as the neons) LOL its just in a shell of a DSM.

it was sarcasm. i was referring to iisbernhard's comment that your ESi is a DSM. not trying to flame, just stating facts. and thank you for agreeing with me and displaying some intelligence (something severly lacking on this thread)

I never said chrysler is using 80s technology, and im far from a dumbass, I work on these cars every day. DO U? i dont spread rumors on what breaks on cars... I fix them when they break! and Neons have sent me lotsa buisness. chrysler transmissions still fail in many of thier cars with normal operation. This does not mean its a 80s tranny stuck in a 02 car, It just means they still havent got it right... nothing more. By the way if your challenging me to a race think twice. My DSM is the slowest of 3 cars I own.
91 Talon TSI - Mid 13s
91 MR2 Turbo 11.35
88 IROC-Z Prostreet 10.80s on street tires

Now do u really want to be a 3-time looser?:thumb:

DSMu4ia, I don't mean to piss off you or anyone else who loves the neons. I'm just saying that I love my 2nd gen. dsm a whole lot more. I know i dont have the fastest car in the world but i plan on selling my ESI next year and getting a TSI AWD. And i know all about the crankwalk so I'm gunna see if i can get a brand new JDM motor from Japan that is a 6 bolt. But anyways, DSMu4ia knows some beautiful women. I love the pictures man. Damn, I need a girlfriend. Is the chick in the towel single? Just kidding

most cars have problem
DSM----crankwalk
WRX----drivetrain problems
Older Neons----tranny problems

i can go on and on with different makes and models.

Neons have a worse track record than a average car. Ive seen a 2 year old neon with 40K miles, that was on its 2nd tranny and 3rd head gasket. One of my relatives works at a Chrysler garage as a service manager and told me Broken Neon jokes have gotten old! Its assumed that every one that gets traded in has problems. He also says every tech in the service area is a PRO at head gaskets and tranny swaps on neons since so many are done. For the most part higher end chryslers dont have these problems as often. I know the N/T eclipse has neon drivetrain. Again i have nothing against the Neon or N/T DSM, I had only stated before that i wouldnt trust the new neon until they had been on the road for a while without the same old problems. My 91 Talon TSI has 171K miles on the original engine/turbo/tranny. and at 17PSI still runs with the new Ford lightnings. Most neons with see the Bone Yard well before this kind of mileage. But theres too many people in here to agree on anything so my opinion will be shared by some and bashed by others.....Life goes on:)

yea my 1.8 has 125000 miles on it and i just put in the second clutch at 120k...never had replaced anything else other than like brakes & timing belt...still gets really good mileage and NO oil burning what so ever...and i drive the hell out of that thing....i go thru potholes at school everyday that like almost send the car airborne...ive gone trayin in the can and who knows what else....its been driven thru hell a couple of times...ive had it rev up so high it wouldnt rev any further in 1st gear...and its never let me down...even when the clutch went it was still driving....just barely slipping...parts are cheap as hell too

Isnt is funny how cars that get the most abuse sometimes never have problems. Guess thats why they say break um in the way you plan on using them.

Oh shit my bad, being that i dont own a STUPIDLY SLOW N/A DSM, i guess i have no reason to ever care about what SLOW stickers they put on the car, to make it look special for consumers.

i read somewhere on this forum that it is a pain in the ass to make the 4g64 turbo. there is a lot of work involved. i might be mistaken but thats what i remember.

I beat my friends from a roll and from a stop. its a pretty quick car, doesnt feel like a 14 flat car but i havent driven it myself. the seats are terribly uncomfortable, just think of them as dodges attempt at recaros. it holds trction pretty well, havent gotten to launch it myself (yet i hope:p ) but i think they will yield a pretty decent 60ft.

to those who dont believe me i will get some video of me beating him, then him admitting to it (hes cool like that), and then a view from his car to show that it isnt driving ability thats giving me the advantage.
