I have a 99 Gs-t w/ a couple of mods wich are (apexi down pipe, thermal catback, greddy-s BOV, Injen intake, msd wires, ngk plugs, b&m shifter, ACT 2600 w/ xtreme pressure plate & hks turbo timer) I am running with stock tires. I have never timed my 1/4 mile. The new neon runs the 1/4 mile in 14.2. Do tyou think I can take it :confused: :dsm:
 
actually those seats are the EXACT seats that are in the viper, but at cloth rather than leather. Also, my friends brother is a dodge mechanic and he said those neons are already having tranny issues.

Recently I was a Finalist in the "Ride Me, Drive Me, Win Me" contest to win a SRT-4. Well i didnt win, but...I did get to autocross one. 1st off, throttle by wire is freakin retarded, the gas pedal offers no resistance to my heavy DSM foot, and I suspect fools the driver into feeling false throttle response.
2nd the SRT 4 NEEDs a LSD, it spun ->A<- wheel around every turn and wasted all that power it makes.
3rd VERY good off boost torque thanks to the 2.4 in it.
4th its ugly
5th the interior feels cheap
6th people have already made the 300whp mark with very minor mods. Check out the SRT forums...
7th the car is a very good deal for 20,000.
8th its ugly.

thats all i got to say about that.
 
The SRT-4 comes with equal length half-shafts (axles) so in a straight line with nearly equal surfaces on both sides it can definitely spin both wheels.
 
I used to own a 96 Neon. That car had more problems then any car I have ever owned, my family has ever owned, or my grandfather had to deal with back when he owned a dealership. It was poorly built, poorly supported, and poorly serviced by my local Dodge dealerships. However...

I am glad that the SRT-4 hit the market. It has redefined value performance and has broken the rule that sub $20K cars can't go faster then 15s. The Celica, RSX, and Spec V suddenly aren't so apealing to a lot of people.

It may be a Neon, but it's a damn fast one, and I know all I will see is SRT-4 tail lights with my stock GS-T. Would I buy it? No. I don't buy Neons after the horrid time with my last. But I do think it will shock the industry into giving more power for the money.
 
oh, and whoever said that the test cars were not production because they didnt have mufflers is wrong. The production car does not come with a muffler either.
 
Well, I know that the Srt-4 has a claimed 200+ HP, and the dyno showed that it ran 223 HP, and 250 torque!!! If it weren't for the bad name (neon), the car would be so much better!!! The wrx dyno was at 168 Hp, and 169 torque. There is also the problem of the front wheel drive. You definately NEED all wheel drive to even think about getting traction when you're producing that much hp and torque. Over all, I would still prefer the gs-x, wrx, lancer evo 8, or the wrx sti....... ALL WHEEL DRIVE!!!! I would prefer the gs-t over the srt-4 only because of it's name NEON!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and by the way, I don't think there's a chance that a gst with the little mods that it does have could take a srt-4 only because of the 223 Hp and the 250 torque.

I raced one.. imma 2g with the t25 still.. 550's + supporting mods minus the FMIC....

20psi UNTUNED i got spanked sill 3rd gear. 1-2 even as usual...(dayam FWDs)

but check this out...14psi pretty well tuned... the neon got OWNED. 3rd i spanked it 3rd gear. =)

oh well another one for the DSM's

for sale sign on my talon.i wanted factory boost and some real speed..im gettin an srt-4... mopar stage 1 upgrade..intake and pipin work, bov...im a baller so i can afford all that(haha)... ill be smokin my fellow dsmers awd or not. low 13s prolly..and they aint ugly...i cant wait to smoke some wrx's i hate them things! dsm will always have a place in my heart
 
i only have one thing to add to this VERY interesting discussion

if the driver of the car is happy with what he drives, does it matter what anyone else thinks?

p.s. personally, i don't like neons. but i think people put too much emphasis on "this car is ugly," or "i wouldn't even ride in one of those..."
 
i got sick of people yappin, srt has 224 hp and the front wheels, thus dwarfing the wrx's hp, you would have to think that you would need at least that much at the wheels to beat a driver of simular skill, with you mods and a mbc i think you would have him. who said the srt would run to 60 in 4 sec...... derp.... and the srt does have a 16g
 
i doubt gm is gona build a bad a$$ turbo fwd any time soon, i know they built a concept turbo cavalier, but i doubt it. there is a new srt on base here, maybe when i mod my 1g out a lil more i'll try to scrap
 
You know the SRT-4 produces more horsepower to the wheels than it does at the crank. Yea, figure that. It's no BS either.
 
When the SRT-4 was dyno'd, It produced more HP to the wheels than it did at the crank. Make fun of me, call it BS, whatever... It's been published in a magazine. Don't ask me which one, I just remember reading it and thought I'd share it.
 
i think you are mistaken, dodge underated the hp, kinda like all the big car companies did with the muscle cars back in the day.... i believe to cut down the price on insurance..... sport compact rated it 224 or 223 at the front wheels, and if you think about it, i mean really think about it there is no possible way it would produce more at the wheels than the crank, its not like the tranny added a few another two thenths of a liter or turned the boost up at all
 
It really comes down to Neons are UN-reliable as hell. Also I like my Dsm because its pretty powerful and nice and just has a nice setup. As for cars that are fast, hell why not get a camaro z28 run Nitrous Oxide and you would be in the 12s in due time.

I go for looks, speed,reliablitly and the GSX does it for me , The neon has the speed and is a shotty design in my mind , also to mention a money pit.

Just my 2 cents.
 
I want to just comment on the whole girly car thing. I get a lot of crap from the local guys about how girly my car is. That doesn't mean shit, it will own most of their cars and the ladies do love it. NO ONE drives my car. Except... LOL, a girl stripped down totally naked and got into my 3/4 length leather jacket just to drive my car. I don't hear girls doing that to drive a friggen civic or a teg. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :dsm:
