Wasting my time with GST??? vs SRT-4

Like the title says, i need to know. Every night i go out i am running into a SRT-4 and getting ate up and spit out. I just recently bought a 14b for $50 (not installed). Is this going to help me at all compared to the 2.4L the neon has.I hate to be so newbie but this kids around here are everywhere and embarrising me with my T-25 (thats prob my #1 problem). I love my DSM dont get me wrong, but would i be spending more to try and keep up with these staged srt's than rather going out and buying one, which is more costly? I dont wanna start a big argument or anything, im just wanting to know what you guys are doing to your cars to out run these things. :dsm: Tony

An SRT4 would still catch up and still make short work of you. And what's with all the 14b bashing? There's a dude on here who's in the 13s with a 14b in a GST on street tires.

i dont know if i'm the "dude" you're refferring to, but i've ran a 13.9 in my 14b equipped gst. and i've trapped as high as 106mph in my gst. and my 13.9 was with a 2.3 60ft. and that was all on stock injectors/stock tires. this weekend i'll be putting in some 680cc's and be even faster/quicker. after tax time, i'll have the evoIII 16g and be even faster :D

and as far as srt4's, i eat them alive all day long. i got tons of video footage of me beating them time after time at the track. even if they were close races as far as e.t.'s i out trapped everyone of them by several mph every time.
 
With my current mods (less FMIC and 24psi) I have taken modded SRT-4's. Little things here and there help a lot... Spend sometime learning to launch and what not. IMHO a dual stage boost controller is a FWD best friend. Last week i walked a 350z track edition with full exhaust, intake and a few "free mods" is what the guy said.... I did that from a stop with a extra 500lbs of weight (David and Damian from Chicago club DSM) and im A/T. Everyone has their own experiences with the SRT's. Stock they are quick but can be beat. I have less then 5k in my car as it sits right now, so with 7.5k you will be golden.

I believe you when you say this, however, I've personally seen SRT-4's run 13.9 bone stock...just like they are supposed to be able to do. It all depends on the driver. A good driver can do better than that too. Supposedly they can do 13.8's or better with decent driving. Lets keep in mind that personal races do not always give a good indication of a cars capabilities. There are always variations with drivers and vehicles.
 
i dont know about you guys, but me and a srt4 went from a 2ng gear roll till third gear(had to slow, traffic) and i was about a car and a half on him. albeit my turbo spools alot quicker(still on t25, that will change, evo16g in the mail) but we had about the same gear ratios and shifted 3rd at the same time and point, and he wasnt gaining at all.

and the 2 guys that had SRT4's around here that ive talked to are both selling cause they hate them, they hate the cheapness. one guy hates being called the neon(too bad it is) and the other cause he learnt that the mopar mods arent warrantied and void the warranty he had. they were both pretty lame, one guy thought i mustve been running 25psi of boost cause he can tell the bov sounded louder meaning more air was coming through, and he could tell all this when the bov is recurculating and not even building more than 2-3psi in idle revving. the other guy that i raced thought i was running nitrous. both guys dreamed of the stage1 mopar kit but had no idea what any the parts were or what the did, only that it could make them decimate stock GT's. weak. i make stock to modded gt's look bad on a t25, i can only imagine on a 16g.


the point. take the money and mod the dsm. then show that ghey ass neon owner whats up.
 
Why would you want to sell your sports car for a family based econo car?
sure they are fast and all. But in the end its just a neon.
Just the same as a civic .

You wouldnt do up a chevette if one was to smoke you would you? :laugh:

and our cars are just obsolete pieces of crap that are broken down most of the time... so what's your point? :| we still love them hehe.

some things just can't be argued... it's like saying.. what tastes better? chicken or fish?

Speak for yorself man. I definitely don't think my car is obsolete and it definitely ain't piece of crap sinc eit's faster than most things on the road. 2g's will always look better than a neon! :thumb:

hmmmm, maybe yours is broken "all the time". I have 100k on my gs-t, and i've been running a 16g setup for awhile. The only thing my car has ever needed is a clutch.


If i had 7 grand to blow on my car (assuming its stock like his) here's what i'd do:

-20g turbo
-720cc injectors
-dsm link
-255lph pump
-FMIC
-act2600
-act Xact flywheel
-Phantom grip LSD
-3" downpipe w/cat delete
-3"cat back


Even on a 100k motor (thats being well maintained), it should handle this setup for some time.
 
whats up every1, i have an 04 srt4 with bpu plus a little extra, stage 2, profec b2 at 20psi, 3'' turboback, new fmic, hotchkis sways and a couple other odds and ends...

i'm not going to start a war i just wanna stick up for my car...first off i have no problems w/ dsms, my best friend has a 95 gsx w/ 3'' tboback, evo turbo etc...its quick, but i have yet to run into problems with a normally modded eclipse...im obviously not talking about the guys w/ 20g + turbos...but eclipses even w/ upgraded 16gs...just realize srt4s are pretty fast

the kid who sold his car becaues he didnt want to get made fun of is a ####, no offense...btw last dyno b4 stage2 was 255whp/315tq....

Of course, the most common 16G these days isn't that far off from a 20G. ;)

ive never run into an eclipse w/ a 20g (not that i know of at least) but i'm assuming it would walk me pretty good...ive kept up with some modded evos...granted not turbo upgraded but ones w/ exo/mbc/intake etc...havnet raced one with stage2 yet tho
 
i have raced my friends srt-4 with stage 2 and exhaust numerous times and beat him from a dig and from a 20 mph roll. he has yet to be me. i think get hat 14b on there get a bov that can hold boost a full exhaust boost controller and s-afc and tune it well and you should have no problem running them. i know i don't :)

Thats cool, maybe I will see you around when I go visit my friends down there. What would you run in the track, I have a couple of friends with 16gs that I am sure wouldn't mind racing you. :) I will also probably have my car ready too if you want to go for a run up at the track sometime by next season.

BTW: I have one of those cars that are untuned that spin the tires at 3rd gear.... I think i need a LSD... but yeah... I don't really get what someone meant by 400 hp FWD cars that spun their wheels in 3rd... But I will tell you right now IT S*CKS... Any suggestions on telling me how to get rid of it besides slicks would be nice BTW.
 
that srt4 in that vid is like the slowest one i have ever seen...compare to a person who actually knows what they are doing...people w/ no mods and just slicsk have run in the high 12s/low 13s...

i have yet to run my car w/ s2...s1 i ran 13.8 w/ street tires...i just bought some drag radials so i'm hoping for 12s....people have run mid-lwo 12s w/ my setup...im hoping just to hit 12s

My point was why would you sell your car because some neon beats you .
There is nothing really special about an srt-4 Hp is not magic what you can get from a neon you can get from a DSM and with a DSM you get style.

As far as our cars being crap what the hell are neons?

Its funny how I sound like I hate them .
Truth is that I love them If I was going to buy a new performance car I would be looking at them. I have deep turbo Dodge roots So I guess I like crapboxes. I would be driving one now had they come out before I bought my DSM.

But sell My DSM cause a srt-4 beats me thats foolishness.

Selling the DSM to get a newer car with a warranty I could understand.
 
IF you want to REALLY think about it, if you trade your DSM for a SRT-4 you will be faster. spend 1000$ on each car in modifications, Cat-back, intake, hard piping what ever in the same exact mods for each car i garentee the DSM will pull through in the end. if a DSM has exhaust intake and a turbo upgrade (lets say 15 psi liek the SRT-4 runs) you will beat a SRT-4. DSM's has so much potential (im not sayin SRT-4's dont kuz they do, just that DSM has more potential thats known) you jsut gotta know what to do with it. free up ur intake and exhaust and i promise you will be satisfied with just spending about 2k. here is what i suggest

1.) K&N FPIK filter (120$)

2.) Full intercooler hardpipes (150-300$ depending on custom or bought)

3.) Replacing all vaccum lines (10-20$ if your car is older you will need these, ul feel a difference.. i did)

4.) N1 muffler with Custom 3" piping! (go to any muffler shop and thel bend the pipe and make muffler mounts probably install it to) price varies about 80-150

5.) A downpipe (100-250$ depending on material and brand. make sure it has a flex section tho to avoid a cracked pipe)

6.)Lightnend Crank pully / flywheel (they got these suckers on ebay for 25-55$ ul gain about 5-10+ HP)

7.)High flow cat (they got these on ebay also for about 25-55$)

8.) Port out your exhaust and intake manifold and O2 Housing(just remove them and take a dremel to it, make sure u remove them tho dont want metal shaving in the engine il cause a lock-up)


right there is EASY modification for about 1,500 on the high side and ul gain at least 50 hp if not more like 70hp i did this and payed about 1,200 and im pushing out roughly 65-70 more HP although i just rebuilt my engine its performing brand new. do this and u will be HAPPY!
 
well lets say 1500 spent on srt4:

same custome 3" turboback ~ 200
manual boost controller ~ 150
stage 1 ~ 300
drag radials ~ 300
water/alcohol injection ~ 500 (people are making tons of power with this-i personally wouldnt do it but to each his own)

for $1500 you have a mid 12 sec car

There is a guy w/ basically those same mods running 12.2

i'm not saying dsms suck bc my friend had a 95 gst...all he did was 3'' turboback and a mbc and his car pulled pretty good...
 
There's this girl I know with a 1g gst, 14b turbo @ 15psi, 3" turboback with no cat, and afc tuned a lil bit, oh and fuel pump ofcourse, that beat a srt-4. Also she had an intake, LOL. But she beat a stage II srt-4, beat a 350z right in front of me too. So yeah 14b @ 15psi with a 3" turboback i think will do the job. Aspecially taking out that cat, that should add some ponies.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but MOST 14b equipped GSTs are lucky to hit 13s. High 12s? Not very likely especially for someone who doesn't seem to have lots of experience modding cars.
Out of 47 cars on the fastest times page, only 7 cars are in the 12s or less, and you can bet those cars have a lot more mods than what you listed...
A guy locally has 400+ HP on his FWD, traps at 120 mph, but still can't break into the 11s. And I *think* he was on drag radials. Probably not slicks.
 
I love dsm's but srt-4's are harder to beat than everyone thinks when driven correctly I pulled 13.5 @102 with just k&n drop in filter and exhaust dump with stock cat and boost with a crappy 2.1 60". I have heard of guys running low mid 12's with only 1,500 spent.
