99 GS-T vs. SRT-4

I have a 99 Gs-t w/ a couple of mods wich are (apexi down pipe, thermal catback, greddy-s BOV, Injen intake, msd wires, ngk plugs, b&m shifter, ACT 2600 w/ xtreme pressure plate & hks turbo timer) I am running with stock tires. I have never timed my 1/4 mile. The new neon runs the 1/4 mile in 14.2. Do tyou think I can take it

With the Biggest 4 cylinder you could make, 11-14psi from a TD04-L-16GK , and a car that weighs a mere 2880 lbs.... I think it's still kinda weak. BUT... it's still gonna kick some butt!!

As for the North American Compact Wars...I think it'll boil down to AWD WRX STi vs Mitsubishi Evo shoot out. Too bad they took away all the electronic goodies that come with a J-Spec Evo.

I give the SRT-4 props...under 20k for a 200+ turbocharged car...that's great! IMHO the SRT-4 wasn't built to compete with the STi or the Evo. It was more of a chance to get some of that all dominant 02 WRX currency.

Just think of it this way...DSM'r's seek to punish higher sports cars. It'll be the SRT-4's turn to seek our modified DSM's and make a name for themselves.

Just prepare yourselves for these new breed of cars that can haul arse that come with everything off the showroom floor.

North American Sport Compact Wars are just heating up and will continue for the next decade and more.

90% of you guys don't have ANY idea wtf you are talking about.

It's a NEON, so WHAT? I'd take it OVER ANY 1g old rusty 13 yr old car, or any 2g crankwalking, no power, POS. I bet it's buildquality puts our DSM's to shame. Plus its got that 7/70 warranty which simply kicks ass.

Another few key points, some of the factory albeit dealer options include LSD (!!!), and a bunch of intake/turbo/exhaust/ECU upgrades. All of which WILL NOT VOID your warranty. Seeing how this car is doing 102-103mph stock from a few guys, I don't think it'd be THAT hard to get them up to 110mph.

If I didn't have a car payment I'd buy one in a minute.

For the choad who was making fun of it's "2.4" making shitty power...there's alot of explanations.

1. Maybe you forgot to look at the torque.
2. Maybe you forgot about boost response.
3. Maybe you forgot about turbo size, stock turbo, and upgrade-ability for future turbos.
4. Maybe you forgot a larger displacement motor naturally has more ability to make power. There is NO replacement for displacement.
5. Maybe you forgot to do your homework, and see that the majority of BONE STOCK SRT4's are doing about 220whp, and 240ld/tq bone stock on dynojet's. Stock 2g's are doing at BEST 180whp. 40whp with way more torque, and less weight makes a much quicker car.
6. Maybe you forgot you can make larger than 2.4L from a I-4.

With basic mods, such as downpipe and exhaust, and 14psi, these cars have went low 13's already. Stock tires.

This 2.4 motor has went plenty fast already in a FWD by Forward Motion. So we know it has potential.

Give it to summer, and I bet they are going 12's on stock tires, with little mods.

how.... pathetic? and who is the genius that compared an SRT-4 to a viper & lambo? for the price of either, you can have a neon going MUCH faster than a viper. comparing an $80K car to a $20K car? $60K in mods and that sissy neon will spank a viper silly. Mopar is sponsering an SRT-4 that routinely run's 9's (9.07 @ 155)... but that's not THAT fast is it

Back to topic. SRT-4 is a neat car. Not my style but it deserves credit. My friend Joe had a factory freak Neon. Beat 2 people then killed the engine 'cause he thought he had a rally car. Neon + rock(sisze of a grapefruit) = loss of oil pan. Needless to say his next engine in his car was quick (still stock). I feel more solid in a DSM thank you so i wont be getting a Neon any time soon.

The neon is not the greatest looking car, but it is not the ugliest either. I think the second gen dsm's look better, but under the hood neon takes it. I am happy w/ my car and I cant wait to race my friend's neon win or lose. Its all about having fun!

Your STUPID... First off, I didn't say the NEON is slow. We all know it's fast. If you read my post you would see I took into consideration that crap, and that it's going to kick butt!!! and Ya... you COULD make a larger 2.4 4 cylinder, but that's the largest factory produced I-4, the 2.5 is a 6 cylinder. There ARE buckets of turbo lag if you did YOUR home work... and if all you care about is speed, and I've seen your car, then sure...get the NEON. But most people care about how their car looks too. Which is why I got an Eclipse and not a Dodge Spirit. Cause I'd rather have a respectable looking car with the speed to match.

I dont dis any car that runs low 14s out of the box, I just think they will be unreliable.... In the past anyone who is a mechanic in here......all stand up.... knows the neons have a proven history of blowing head gaskets... one after another. Certain years are known as lemons in the chrysler community. Even the newer ones have had this problem. So now after years of this problem Dodge says "lets add boost"????
The car may have a different engine now but has had no time to prove itself long term. As far as kicking our asses at the track......
I have friends with over 10K invested into their N/T neons and after 14flat traction becomes a serious problem. Its like this with the Cavaliers or any comparable car. Dollar for Dollar, they could have built a faster car using a AWD DSM. As for the new neons using Slicks to challenge us... Thats always been chryslers other weakpoint....FWD transmissions coming apart or failing. This has been a problem from the mid 80s to present, again they never corrected the problem but now add more power....They say the neon is our cousin car but i would have to say "POOR COUSIN" as it hasnt got the better parts in the past our DSMs have generously recieved from Mitsu... Anyway i say enough with the Bull$#!@ and lets see what happens at the track this summer. My local track opens 4/2 and ill report any SRT sightings
