I have a 99 Gs-t w/ a couple of mods wich are (apexi down pipe, thermal catback, greddy-s BOV, Injen intake, msd wires, ngk plugs, b&m shifter, ACT 2600 w/ xtreme pressure plate & hks turbo timer) I am running with stock tires. I have never timed my 1/4 mile. The new neon runs the 1/4 mile in 14.2. Do tyou think I can take it  :dsm:

Stock for Stock, they are better equiped. They come with FMIC, bigger turbo and other performance parts that the Eclipse just doesn't. They are meaner out of the box. But, I still wouldn't drive one. No ego, just couldn't drive something my grandmother takes to the Grocery Store everyday! It might not be an SRT but it still says NEON on the back.

stock vs stock.. the new neon should beat stock gst and gsx.. however.. thats due to the fact they have a betterstock turbo.. u slap a 16g on 2g dsms stock and it would be something else.. with the t25.. with a few mods.. id still think they have a slight edge.. but with a good driver u should outedge him..

yeah man, ur car should b pretty fast, if it aint then just practice ur timing or something, with the mods u hav u should even b wrrying bout a dodge, unless its a viper :D

you'll probably lose :)
Those are some nicely developed machines, with mods it will be a hard car to beat on the streets, but hell when the STI comes out it will own every car out there.

I did some digging, because I was thinking that people just wouldn't buy the SRT-4 because it was a NEON, so I looked into it.

Actually it's not a Neon. Dodge is calling it simply the SRT-4.

SO..... Does that change anything??? My personal thoughts are that while it certainly would eat up a stock GS-T... The other "contenders", including the DSM AWD Twins/Triplets, WRX, etc... have a lot to gain in terms of mere handling, which is not really something I see the SRT-4 having a strong suit in. After all, not all of us like to just drive in a straight line.

"SRT-4's engine is a turbocharged, and intercooled 2.4L DOHC 16v 4cylinder engine that produces 215HP, 245lbs torque."

"The turbocharger produces up to 15 pounds of boost."

Definitely a run for DSMs money, but I think with a few modifications (intake, cat-back exhaust, high-flow cat/down pipe, BOV) you could keep up with it. The torque on that car is killer.

Im sure that car will respond very well to mods just like dsms. im sure it would be nasty with just a boost controller added

My choice is obvious....:dsm: :thumb:

NOTICE: Whenever questions like this comes up it appears that somebody always says that "if you're a good driver ..." couldn't we just approach this with the all things being equal philosophy. Being a good driver will always make a difference so its basically a given. Therefore, if you ask if your car can beat X car and people say you can but you lose, that just mean you suck at driving. BTW, this isn't an attack on anybody but just wanted to make this a given fact and eliminate having to mention it everytime.

midnght, why are you comparing a SRT-4 to an Evo VIII? First off the Evo VIII is about $8,000 more than a SRT-4. Second, why if the Evo has 62 more HP than a SRT, does it only beat it by .4 in the 1/4 mi. ? The reason it gets to 60 quicker is partly because of AWD. There is really no one close to the SRT-4 where bang for the buck is concerned (new of course). Also to the rest of you guys why all the hatin' on the Neon? And by the way to those who didn't know the Neon will be sharing the Lancer platform when it gets it's redesign in '06, so the
SRT-4 will be at least the equal to the Evo(probably IX by then). Though the SRT-4 may remain FWD, so as not to encrouch on the Evo and its racing heritage. So any way the choice may be obvious when it comes to your preference, but when comparing the numbers the choice isn't as obvious. Sorry for the long post.

This was my response to that question at hand. I will let others tell him what power he has added since I haven't seen any dyno charts to see thepower to compare. I am simply showing what stock situations would be so he can make his own evaluations. He did not ask "Did I spend as much on my car as he did on his?" it's not how much the cost was, but performance matchup. The stock vs stock is no contest for the SRT, but the stock vs stock is also no contest for the EVO. Which car, the evo or the gst, is closer to stock comparison to the SRT.

EVO-SRT= closer in the turbo, innercooler, and power output (tq/hp).

The only advantage to the evo is AWD, which the last time I heard slows cars down on the highway runs. At some point RIGHT! (SEE ABOVES ACCELERATION CHARTS TO COMPARE!!) But, I would put my money on the EVO to throwing all types of tar and road debri all over that FUGLY looking NEON. It might not say neon on the back, but I don't have to leave the badges on my eclipse to know what the hell I'm driving!

These are all just personnal opinions of my own.

You decide for yourself if it looks like a NEON.:thumb: :dsm:

you have toi give the car props. its extremely fast for a stock car off the lot with a lot of upgrades already available or being available in the near future. someone already previously stated in this thread, with your mods it is basically gonna come down to the driver. Good luck though.

Everything everybody is basing the SRT-4 Times off of is completely incorrect. Those times were derived from a SRT-4 that is not street legal, running mufflerless and without some of the emissions things located on the car. The real SRT-4 will be a little slow once these parts are built into the actual car, and not a prototype. Having said that, it will still be a close race, you will need to launch hard, and drive like ya stole the car, and even then he may catch you and beat you. Problem is on the T25 you lose power after 5Krpm, and those 1500-2500 RPM are enough to drop you behind. OH yeah, and you may want to lose the ACT Clutch until you build up the bottom end of your engine so your crank doesn't walk on you because crankwalk really sucks ass, and runs your wallet really lean...

It's a NEON:barf: as the saying goes you can't polish a turd, and that is that, as far as comparing the EVO to the SRT-4 POS there is no comparision the EVO will out do the NEON:barf: no matter what, a driver's skill does have something to do with racing with reaction time and ability to shift right it's all in knowing your car. Hell I would race one in my Festiva if I thought it would be worth wasting my gas.:p

"its still a neon" this, "its still a neon that". Its still a Neon and watch it own your ass.

Im tired of all the people on this board saying that dumb sh*t. So what, our DSM's are still DSM's, WRX's are still Imprezas. Who gives a fawk? This Neon is still a a Neon, but like stated before, its much better equipped than any DSM ever came outta the box. Give it 6 months and Im sure the aftermarket field for this car will be plush enough for serious tuners with this car to put down some damn respectable times (even though it has an already very respectable time out the box).

for those who want a new turbo car i think everyone is gonna jump on the sti or the evo and if they can't afford something like that they would go for the srt-4. i would roll in any of them personally

Agreed :thumb:

I believe those three cars will dominate the imort scene in the few years to come. Civic what? Integra what? Focuz what?

to tell you the truth my father is getting a new car pretty soon and he wanted the evo but its a little pricey over here. the dealer wants $35,000. so i am getting him info on the srt-4. he used to own a 89 dodge colt gt witht he 4g63 in it.:D

the guy that lives next door to me has a srt-4 and i wouldnt event try to race him now, not until i get more work, he took me for a ride after he got it and i have to say that pretty damn quick. great top end.

http://staff.tcu.edu/jaltschul/SRT-4vsWRX_vs_Talon.WMV

heres a vid of a srt-4 against a talon and WRX, dont know what type of talon, it looks like the talon stays with the srt-4, the wrx is just weak in top end, the srt-4 had 3 people in it and still kills, but what do you all think.

Really??? If so I thought it was my turbo or intake leaking or something. I already knew about turbo lag but I didn't know that after 5k the stock DSM's lose power.
