Hey guys this is my 1st post on DSMtuner! ;) Anyway I currently own a 94' Eclipse GS which is getting replaced with either 1 of 2 options.

The first option is a 98' GSX (asking: $7995) which is basically stock with low miles 72K, leather, moon roof, powe everything etc. Here are some photo's for reference.

Pretty clean eh?

Okay so here is option 2; 97' GS-T (asking: $8,500) even though i'll probably try to talk them down to $7,500 perhaps (which I know is above blue book but it has a lot of mods that I would add anyway). The milage is @ 95K.

This is a great car to cruise in or race. It has 95K miles, tan leather interor, power everything, moon-roof, manual transmisson. It's lowered, 18" rims, brand new tires, AGX struts, new after market turbo and blow-off valve. Has 3 racing gauges: air to fuel, pyrometer, and boost gauge. It also has a turbo timer and EVC boost controller installed in the dash. It also has a 3" downpipe, no cat on the exhaust. I will throw in the cat down-pipe that can be easily changed in and out if needed to pass DEQ. This car can run a 13.6 quarter mile!

So basically the problem lies in I love AWD but i hear the top end isn't as fast, and if i get the stock GSX i know i'm just going to waste all my money on pretty much the same mod's that the GS-T has. In your opinions what should I get?

That is pretty much a no brainer. GSX. It has a higher blue book, so IF you decide to sell it later it will be worth more. I sold my 98 GSX back in 2000, and kick myself daily for it.... ROFL

The other car is better looking, but that is easily fixed. Also, do you want a car that someone probably rodded the hell out of, or a stock one? Not to say that the previous owner of the GSX didn't screw it all up also. You need to go drive the cars, and talk to the owners and really check them out before you buy it. :thumb:

This is an easy one!!

1. the GSX is a better beast.
2. the price is better
3. the miles are lower
4. it's unmodded
5. the GS-T is modded so it's value and reliability go down
6. the price is way too high for a modded GS-T
7. the GS-T is FWD. AWD is preferrable.

go for the GSX!!!

ps.
8. spend some change to switch out the ugly wheels on the GSX though! (the GS-T's wheel are just a ugly though imo) :dsm:

I'll have to go with everyone and put my two cents towards the GSX. It's a newer car with lower miles AND AWD!!! You can launch em off the line like hell if you wanna race it, or if your looking at just practicallity; you live in Oregon, think about the winter,,,,, now how much better is an AWD sounding already? eh? :thumb: Also i would rather get a stock car than buy one that has already had mods put into it for a couple reasons
1) you can do it the way you want
2) you know what you are getting and what condition it is in
3) a car with modifications is probably more likely to have been beat on than a stock one

Well, thats my input. Good luck with what ever car you choose, you'll be pleased with either one since they are both nice. Peace

Basically sounds like everything thinks the GSX is better deal, ugh the 1st thing I would do it lower it, tint it up to 12% - 14% and get a blitz BOV (even with a stock turbo it should sound great) untill i can go for the bigger 16G turbo ;)

BTW are those rims GSX wheels or are they after market on the GSX?

Anyway kinda n00b question but what kind of cost am I looking at to get the bigger 16G turbo and a good intercooler for this?

edit: oh yeah do all GSX's have ABS or is it just an option?

i would go with the GSX, it is unmolested & it is GSX !! for me the more stock the better, that way you have the chance to make it your own, your not driving some one elses car that they built.

all gsx's have abs breaks. going to a 16g and fmic, its really about what kind of brand name you want. greddy will be expensive as you know. you can probably find a slightley used 16g for not that much at all. its up to were you find the cheapiest place if thats what your looking for. definatly go for the gsx though. two main reasons are that 1. u live in a oregan. think about dec. up there. awd is a good thing. 2. you want a car that is all stock, espically when it comes to turbo mods and things like that. the gsx was prob owned by a 35 year old man that just wants something else and that gst has to be a teen or a 20-25 year old that put mods on there and then all of a sudden wants to sell it. prob went out every fri and sat night and reamed balls on it hitting full boost and shit and reving out the gears. in the long run for not a lot of mechincal probs. go with the gsx. well, thats my 46 cents so good luck with that. later, landon :dsm:

Well i was in the same seat but i got a high tuned gst about 450 hp i love it and i wont keep it for ever cuz i be buying a supra in couple of years

I would get a GSX or a GS-T anyday. If I were you I would go test drive the GSX, if it drives good get the GSX. I have had a light modifed 2g TSI AWD before and loved it. Unfortunatly crashed it  , and test drove alot of GS-T's out. But it was nothing compared to an AWD launch!!! I got lucky and found a stock GSX :D and love it. I can't wait to start modding this one again. Hope you have fun with any one you chose.

If it was me, GSX all the way :thumb: :thumb:

What about chipping the GSX, are there any performance chips for a cheap like 10 - 20 boost in HP? I havn't heard / seen too many people talk about chipping on the forum. Enlighten me ;)

Also, after reading another thread on the forum I saw GS-T's hav a rev limited which limits their top end (although it can be removed) how freaking lame is that! Def. good feedback and STRONGLY leaning toward the GSX (which will be mine by mid next week).

When you pull your first 1.7 60', you will be glad you got the GSX. AWD is great, wouldn't trade it for anything.

forget about chip'ing...
go for stand alone ecu or extra devices for fuel managment or and so on...

Hey, aight aight guys... easy on the GST owners.... I would have 2 agree that the gsx deal is a good deal... but also guys there are some advantages 2 a gst and depending on what ure using it for... I like the gsx for the launch i do have 2 agree but the wear is harder on things since the tires dont give.. and the gst breaks the tires loose and puts less stress on it.. Gst trannys are cheaper and once they are moving there lighter and speed up faster... bottom line is.. gotta love em both for being a dsm and the famous 4g63T motor. Just had 2 throw .02 in for us GST owners. LOL.... Happy Tuning... :dsm:
