97 gsx M/T on 96 gsx

Hey Guy's, I just wanted to know if a 97 GSX M/T will fit right on my 96 M/T GSX? Thank's in advance.

Yes and no. The trans will bolt right up but you also have to get a 97-99 transfercase. The center diff and transfercases have different gear ratios that arent interchangeable from one year group to the other.

really? i thought 95-96 were compatible, anything 97 and above should stay in a 97 and above, it was something to do with gear ratios of the differentials or is that just the trans cases?

So, If I get a 97 transfer case I'll be ok or I'll still have problems because I have the 96 rear diff?.

It will fit, just get a matching T-case if you can. If not get a 97 or 99 T-case.

Rear diff is the same for all 2g models as far as gear ratio goes. Just match 97-99 tranny and tcase. 0r 95-96 tranny and tcase
