Hello, a guy that i know is building a shell from an auto GS-T, i have a 5spd 420a, he said that he will trade me the GS-t that he's building after he manual swaps it, he said that he'd do my car and $2000 for the GS-T, he also offered me to pay $2600 and he'd throw in a 20g turbo and HKS or BC cams, are the 7 bolts that awful as everyone makes them see? or should i wait and get a 6 bolt to swap it into the gst?

The newer or older 7 bolt is not too bad, you would want a 98'-99' if you can get one, or even a 93'-94' are decent versions too, but they mount like a 6 bolt would.

ask him how much for the gst without your car. if he says $2500 cash and you keep your GS then it might not be a great deal

He said 6-7k, “nothing fancy just street tune 20psi at least, just a complete at most original condition” this is my GS for reference

Car is a shell, he says he’s gonna start building it if I give him $1000, also, how DD’able is a 20psi dsm?

honestly some one with that much mechanical skill shouldnt need a grand to get going unless he has a bad money habit. i wouldnt even consider giving him money until he finished the build

i told him that i would like to see the finished build before giving him any money *nothing personal* and he said that thats fine, but that he wont prioritize building it, and if i give him money it'd take for him from 30-60 days in finishing the car :hmm: he said he'd be putting some 272 hks cams and a td05 or bigger turbo

yeah that situation doesnt make sense to me. it sounds like he is trying to get a fish on the hook to get money from you, and hes telling you what you want to hear as bait.

so no I wouldn't give a random person $1000 to build something you have never even seen yet

I used to daily my 99 gsx with a 20g at 19psi on 93 . It was making low 300’s I’d say 320ish. It was great for 17-19 y/o. I only daily a truck now just the nature of where I live and what I do for a living now though.

Was great until she spun a balance shaft bearing from lack of maintenance like most dsm’s suffer from.

FWIW I wouldn’t get involved in any kind of situation you’re talking about. I don’t care if it’s your brother, cousin, or your aunt.

hmm, so, it isnt worth it? or should i do it but try to lower the cash on top of the trade?

how DD'able would a 20psi 4g63t be? lets imagine all he is saying is actually true, how much would that car be pushing?
It's all in your right foot. You can stay completely out of positive pressure if you want, you don't always need to be to-the-floor.
it's not like you're hitting 20psi at 1500rpm. it's going to be well over 3000 and that's with your foot hard down.

all things being equal, i've heard this story before and it's literally a shell game contained within a pyramid. even with a solid, enforceable contract, it could take years to claw anything back (if you can at all) in civil court. your money could be going to pay off a debt elsewhere, and then the next person needs to finance your build.

as long as you're OK with losing it all, make your decision based on your gut and want of whatever is being offered. DSM prices are totally out of whack right now so nobody can really tell you "if it's worth it" because nobody here knows the vehicle you'd be getting in return for yours, not to mention how shadetree this person is.

but let me get this straight: he'd take your car and you'd pay him an extra $2000 for a running GST. Then, on top of that, you pay him an extra $2600 for a 20g and cams?
and to start this deal off, you have to front him $1000 of that $2000?

The $2600 for the turbo and cams is outrageous.

I would just offer to buy the shell from him and be done with it, and make sure if you do that its delivered to your house with a good title before you pay for it.

okay, so the "trade" basically is, I give him $2600 and my car, for him to give me back a GST with 272 cams and a td05 @20 psi or i just give him $2000 for a "stock" gst but if i want cams and turbo to add an extra $600, so total would be $2600 (i'd give him my car once he's done building the shell that he has) he has a shop on my city, and it would take him from 1 to 2 months to be done with the car, at least that's what he told me, since he has to get another gst with a manual tranny, let me know if i explained myself:thumb:

So it's your car and 2600 for the GST plus a couple extras
Or your car plus 2000 for just the GST

Ok that makes more sense.

Well if the guy truely is legit and you're ok with the deal, the 2600 makes more sense because you're unlikely to find those extras for 600 on your own.. not impossible but they aren't abundant.

Well, nobody can make the call except you, and I've made some shitty deals in the past when I just wanted the car too much, so all I can say is protect yourself as much as possible. Contracts, written timelines, proof of payment, etc. all the civil stuff that could take years to settle out in a legal battle

i will try to get as much legal backup as possible, you never know, i'll go and take a look at the car with some friends of mine too, which are mechanics, and then if the shell looks good, i'll think it through
