Tried to search but not much info. Thinking about getting a 97 galant de and heard that they have a 4g64 block. So wondering if anyone has ever swaped in a 1g head, mani and tb and turboed it out? If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be very thankfull. Also do they use the same tranny as the fwd eclipse?

TGC is an excellent source of info on this topic. I'll try to find the threads and link to them. (as long as it's allowed) If you have any questions about 7g galants feel free to pm me.

That's actually a project I'm working on for one of my cars.
The one thing you may want to look into is the crank has issues w/ crankwalk, esp running turbo'd. What I did was pick up an Eagle forged crank.

from what i have been told from several sources, is that the 7 bolt 4g64 2.4 glant block is exempt from the usual 7 bolt crankwalk issues

You're right. The 6 bolt is the one that has crankwalk issues.

No way man. Crankwalk is an issue with the 7 bolt 2.0 4G63. The 2.4 is different in a few respects. The most important of which is the lack of oil squirters. Especially since one of the more supported theories behind crankwalk is that the oil squirters on the 7 bolt 4G63 tend to get stuck open and cause a drop in oil pressure to the lower end bearings. That, coupled with having to push the clutch in on start up puts excessive stress on the crank/bearings causing it to "walk".

Lol. Did you not read what we are talking about?
We're discussing the 2.4 or 4g64.

P.S. I don't really care to be referred to as "man". LOL. Kthnx.

Ok guys lets get some things straight,

1. the 4g64 is a 2.4
2. yes the 4g64 is a 7 bolt and 7 bolts can crankwalk but since I have a 4g64 in my car, hell no they dont crankwalk
3. it is quite easy to turbo the 4g64, I did. Any 4g63 manifold fits the 4g64.
4. a 1g or a 2g head can be put on the 4g64. There is not a great write up that I have seen but many guys have done it. Other than needing all the 4g63 head parts you also need to fill holes in the 4g64 block.

It is very easy to find out this information. Searching is always a favorite on this site.

This was my 4g64 turbo bible when I was building my car. Curt has an amazing right up. You should also join the 4g64 yahoo users group. It is a great place to ask questions to guys that respond quickly with a vast knowledge of the 4g64.

Yes, I know we are talking about the 4G64 because that is what I was trying to explain. I would appreciate it if you reread my post next time before jumping down my throat. All I was trying to do was clear up some misinformation. :(

Curt's website is one of the first thing's I ever found in regard to modding the 4G64. If you guys haven't checked my profile, I drive a 96 Galant, which comes with only a 4G64 and am currently running my second turbo setup on this car. I have done a great deal of research on the differences between the 2.0 and 2.4 blocks and I have only found information supporting the theory that the lack of oil squirters in the 4G64 block is the reason why it is extremely rare to experience crankwalk on a 7 bolt 4G64. There is also a 6 bolt version of the 2.4 that was found in late 80s- early 90's hyundais called the G4CS but it is very hard to find.

I would like to see information about the 2.4 6 bolt having crankwalk issues, not really though. Crankwalk is hit or miss with engines so its really not something to worry about.

Damn dude,
2G Turbo Head Swap on a 4G64
7-bolt 4G64 buildup and swap with 1G head
Project 4G64

Just search and you will find what you are looking for. :beatentodeath:

Sorry to be so up front about this but all the questions you have asked could have been answered in 10 seconds.
