Whats up everyone? I'm new to this site and I need some help please.

I have a 97 Eclipse RS non turbo standard 5 speed 2 wheel drive dohc 2.0 and I was driving home the other day doing 55 mph when my car suddenly died without warning, so i had it towed home and been working on it. I first noticed the fuel pump wasn't kicking on to pump fuel to engine and so i tested the pump and its still good. Then I noticed all 4 plugs are not sparking so replaced plugs and coil and wires and still nothing. All my car does is turn over but doesn't start and no weird sounds from engine.

A week before the car stopped running all my dash warning lights came on and stayed on for that week. Low oil pressure light, check engine light, brake light, and also I believe airbag light or maybe ABS light, not sure so i m starting to think it may be my ECU that's bad beside my engine above my fuses and relay box.

I found a ECU for a 95 Eclipse/Talon to replace mine but I'm not sure if it will work in my 97 Eclipse cause its smaller and also has diff plug than my other ECU but I do have plug for the new ECU.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about what may be wrong with my car and also how do I go about installing this other ECU? I dunno if I should cut and splice the plug adapter for the new ECU onto my car so i can plug it in or what. i don't want to damage my car even more. please help. I appreciated anyone's help or input please

Oh and BTW the ECU type I found to replace mine is 5293322 and my old one that installed is 4651711-2 if anyone knows if they would perhaps be compatible.

Use a scan tool, see if its throw out some codes. Since you mentioned you tested your fuel pump (with Multimeter) Test your coil pack also.

An steal you mom's h20 spray bottle for cutting hair, kidding ROFL
Has to be a spray bottle though(empty windex bottle works, clean it out first) put a little bit of liquid soap(dish kind any brand) dilute it with water(cold). With this soapy water spray around your fuel rail. See if you have bad injector seals.

Don't do that, just try find some with a 1997 1998 1999 manual ecu. Test on yours to see if your went out. I never heard of a 1997 ecu going out only 1995 and 1996 year models.

If your able to wait on down time, look in the 420a Classifeds on this forum. There's one forsale there for dirt cheap.

It could've also jumped time, too.
But do check your coilpack, injector seal leak is a far out there but do check them while your there.

i did everything yall said so far and everything seems fine but also i dont know anyone else who has a eclipse so i can borrow there ecu and text it on mine to see if mine is bad. Is there anyother way to text my ecu to see if it is bad. And if i replace my 97 ecu with a 95 ecu how do i go about installing it? Cause the older ecu is smaller and also has a diff plug in so do i have to cut and splice the new adapter plugin to my engine? Or do i install it some other way?

As far as making a 95-96 Ecu work on a 97 I wouldn't do it. From all I've read about the ECU's they were different for a reason. Sure it might be a hassle now, but I'm sure it's worth every penny to plug and play a new one for your year vs. hacking up your wiring to force a "known to have issues" ECU from 95-96's. Just my .02 but best of luck to you man.

yea i think your right. i love my eclipse and dont want to hack it up and make it run but have issues. so guess im gona get new ecu for my year thx man

ok thx buddy i will check into it now

hey yall if my timing belt is broke will that prevent my fuel pump from turning on and no spark to go to my plugs?

If it broke, it won't prevent the pump from "kicking on" due to that being electrical. However a broken timing belt wont allow it to turn over like it should. If it's cranking over like it has everyday I doubt it's your belt.

There's a little inspection cover on our motors, takes a little 10mm socket to get off, and will expose your cams and belt to see if it's broke. Located on the left side of the timing belt cover.

If it happened to "jump time", you can get a compression test done. Any parts store should allow you to rent one for a deposit, in which case you get your money back when you bring the part back, or take to a shop provided they don't gouge you. Easy way of seeing if your pistons and valves smacked in the process if it did jump time. Hope all this helps!

if your not getting spark after replacing all those ignition components you probably have a bad crank sensor. try replacing that its located on the back of the block. there is one bolt that holds it in place and you got to pull and twist for it to slide out. ive run into this problem before. if that doesnt do the trick its either your ecu or some crazy electrical problem (check fuses also)
