Whats up everybody, been a while since I posted anything. Now I have a problem, lets see if anyone has had anything like this.

1997 eclipse RS, 2.0L auto, 91,000 miles. Not abused. Problem: thin white/blue smoke from exhaust. Bad at idle, less at speed or when accelerating. Does not happen when the engine is cold, worse as it gets hot. Not thick, smells horrible. Slight oil smell. Car goes through 1 quart every month, 1000 miles. Running 10w30 Castrol.

Chrysler dealer said head gaskets on 420a's crack allowing coolant/oil into chamber. Have new/better gasket available. I know usually oil smoke means rings or valve guides. Is this common in 420a's? Anyone fixed it? What did you do?

I never heard of a head gasket blowing on any car that still ran perfect, no water in the oil. Does not overheat, ever. Full power. This is embarrassing at MCd's drive through or in traffic. Honda guys laugh at me, say DSM is oil burning junk. Starting college and cannot afford new HP engine. Good mechanic, can rebuild/replace as ness. Need minimal down time though.

Any experience/similar solutions would be appre. I have seen a lot of these 2G Talons/Eclipses burning oil at red lights so I know I am not alone. I don't want to start mod'ing this car until she's right. (lessons learned from drag racing chevys) (Soild, correct running car is needed before building HP)

I feel your pain. I have the SAME car and the SAME problem.....does it mostly at idle, etc etc.

A year ago, my HG was blown & oil and coolant were mixing. However, other than that, she ran fine...didn't overheat or anything.

I had the HG, waterpump, timing belt, and VC gasket all replaced. Now, no more mixing of oil & coolant, but she still smoked from engine bay. VC gasket replaced yet again and she still smokes from engine bay and exhaust.

Like you said it's probably rings/valves and such....and also like you, I don't have the money to do things such as motor swap, much less major engine work. Gladly, I still passed emissions even though it's not *that* bad anyway, I was still a bit worried about that. For now, I just keep an eye on her fluid level. One day, I'll finally have the money to do a swap/re-build and get a 2nd dsm that's turbo.
