95' GS-T Turbo Swap on 95' GS? Is it possible?

Hey guys so I just bought a 1995 Eclipse GS-T w/ a spun rod bearing for a sweet $800.00, low milage great body, the only thing wrong with it is the rod bearing. Well I'm not really looking into fixing it, just upgrading my 1995 Eclipse GS with some of the odds and ends and then making some money off the GS-T. Well I really got to thinking about it, I'm curious to see if you kept just the turbo and a few of the other parts , could I just buy a manifold and whatever else and turbo my car?

..and yes, I know the motors are completely different and practically zero parts are interchangeable. I just came here to see what parts I could use to help turbo my GS. I'm just looking to save some money.

There is really nothing at all from that engine bay that you can use on your car. The interior, suspension and body yes, engine nothing.

Unless the turbo is a genuine MHI TDO5H or bigger unit, don't waste your time.
Also there is a good chance you may need to rebuild the turbo after the rod massacre.

If you want an eclipse with a turbo, you're better off fixing the gst and selling the gs.

Uuhh your better off selling your gs and using that money to fix the GST as their worth more money and it opens the door for more possiblities.
to turbo your gs is not at all easy, first turbo injectors are low impedance and your non turbo are high impedance injectors let a lone your engine wont take the added power of the turbo very long even if you do all the other work to make it possible.
I dont mean to be rude its just very impractical in most aspects.

and I would so do that, the only thing keeping me from doing so is honestly the cosmetics of my GS. I really don't want to have to go through the trouble of painting the GS-T. I was just thinking it'd be easier to turbo my GS rather than tear out the motor to my GS-T. I mean I don't know if the rod bearing is the only thing thats wrong with it tbh, the oil looks like metallic paint man.

Yeah, but the cosmetics on the GS are sooo much better. I don't want to have to go through the trouble of painting the GS-T and pulling out the motor. I'd rather just turbo the gs. I've already took the struts and springs off the GS-T (it had Takico struts and springs I didn't know about) I just think the GS would turn out a much easier and cleaner build. For the GS-T I would have to buy a front and rear bumper because the ones on it now are hideous, also a paint job is really necessary, the rod bearing and whatever else is damaged (the oil looks like metallic paint.) So all in all, the GS is looking like a pretty good option at the moment..

oh, and I don't have an unlimited supply of money like some of you guys. I need to go the cheaper option as well. Thanks

Its easier to fix the GST, you'd have to put 3k + into your gs to make the turbo swap successful. You could alway sell both and find a clean gst or gsx, i'd say do the evo swap on your gs but that takes a lot of knowledge and experience.
by the sounds of how your oil looks in the gst more then likely all your engine bearing are pootched and there could be damage to the crank as well.

thats actually not a bad idea to sell both and find a nice gsx or gst.. I'd say I could probably get $1,000-1,400 for the GS-T.. and probably about $3,000 for the GS. $4,000 could get me a nice GS-T. Thanks for presenting the options to me man, you've really got me thinking now.

The stock 2g dsm T25 turbo is made by garret, and it's really not worth much.

but according to your image you got the better Mitsubishi made turbo.
Write down the numbers on the side of the turbo,
if you want to know which type of MHI turbine wheel it has. the numbers you're looking for will start with 49178- the next 5 digits will tell you what kind of MHI turbo it is.

Nah, I haven't even dropped the oil pan yet, I can get pics of the oil if you'd like haha. Will that turbo alone work on my Eclipse GS though? I just don't want to get in over my head on the GS-T. I have to sell one of the cars to get money to build the one I don't sell. I don't care about which one will be worth more in the end or anything, I just want a good solid, cost effective car build @mitsubishikid

It says 49178-01470.. meaning its the Evo III Big 16g? Can I use this on my GS?

Nice you got one of the best 4G63T street turbos.

As far as bolting a turbo up to a 420A while it can be done I Don't think they make a manifold to bolt a dsm turbo directly to 420a.
You'd need to ether make a custom exhaust manifold, or buy one of the t3 flanged ones and weld together a 4G63T exhaust adapter together.

which equals more money you wont spend if you rebuild the gst.

me personally I feel the gst is gonna cost less and perform better. More after-market support is available for the 4G63T then the 420a.
and since it's a more common power plant some parts will be cheaper too.

I get where you are coming from on the GS-T man I really do, you'd just have to see it with your own eyes and then you might understand me a little better. Maybe I'll upload a lot of pics comparing the two tomorrow. Oh yeah, so basically the turbo is the only thing I can steal from the GS-T? intercooler? injectors? ecu? air intake? anything? @mitsubishikid

I would fix the gst. The car is already set up for a turbo and you can just plastic dip the car.

I would suggest reading some of the build threads with guys sticking a turbo in their GS. The engine is significantly weaker than the 4g63, which means to make as much power as a stock 4g63, you need to dump a bunch of labor/money into the car (on top of being much less reliable). Many other members have made similar comments, but I think you should do some reading on the subject to really get a firm understanding of what you would be getting yourself into.

If the damage on the GST is not bad, there is nothing stopping you from swapping your GS exterior to the GST. Before ruling out fixing the GST, why not drop the pan, pull the head, and see what kind of internal damage there is - you may be surprised.

The third option is always 2 dsms are better than 1 .

here is something that nobody has also told you. You also have to run some type of programable ecu to control your turbo gs, so you have to learn how to read the fuel maps so you can properly tune it. You also have to modify the frame rails in the engine bay to mount the 4g63. So I guarantee you that it will cost SOO MUCH more to turbo the gs . either you spend a bunch of money to turbo the gs and get 4g63 stock hp all the while of not having a reliable car or keep the drivetrain from the Gst than find yourself a clean turbo shell. you really have to know what your doing in order to have a RELIABLE, fully working turbo gs. Good luck, another piece of advice is to READ all you can about this process before you do ANYTHING to your cars.

2g42, any part of the exterior that can be removed from the GS will fit on the GST, which is why we were asking what the extent of the exterior damage was.

There's no real exterior damage it's just the paints is pretty bad.. I wouldn't even be on this thread if the GS-T had a nice red paint job. I just want to avoid having to paint a car,

You could always just do a roll on rustoleum paint job. If done right than it will turn out looking real good, and cost you 150 bucks.
