95 gs-t traction

does the 95 gs-t's have like any kind of traction in first if you take off fast like racing from a dig?
 
Limited Slip Differentials
If you have a front wheel drive DSM, you'll probably need an aftermarket LSD to keep the tires from spinning - especially if you plan on making more than the stage 1 power levels. FWD cars will have a more difficult time achieving fast 1/4 mile times compared to the AWD cars due to traction. Tranny rebuilds are the most opportune time to install LSDs, since the tranny is already being taken apart.

If you rev any car up to 6 grand and dump the clutch your going to spin. You probley will with AWD. Even with slicks you'll spin a slight bit.
 
Practice, practice, pratice. if you practice launching your car and keeping the wheels from spinning then you won't have to many problems.

I have to agree.

To add to that:

Stiffer motor mounts
Stiffer rear springs (they don't help as much as you think)
Good tires
Alignment
Slight camber adjustments

This works quite well. FWD gets a bad rep because of their AWD counterparts. But in fact these cars are great for being FWD. Try launching a turbo 5s-fe 3rd gen Camry:notgood: . . . With my insert and the above mods, my eclipse pulls through 1st harder than my rear wheel drive (great squating traction) T-bird Turbo Coup w/ Trac-Lock (LSD) that is pretty convincingly modded.

A fwd car is at a big disadvantage to just about ever other platform out there.(rwd/awd/) The secret is to get all the traction you can with suspension and tires and have enough power to catch up.

I beat rwd guys off the line all the time. I'm not saying that FWD is more advantagous than rwd or awd. I am jsut saying simply that I beat most guys w/ rwd right from the "get go". Compared to all the FWD cars out there, FWD DSMs have good traction. . .
 
you cant really lauch with a FWD, you gotta somewhat ease out of the hole and punch it later on so you dont spin. AWD does spin off the line but not very much. AWD has no where to go but to lung forward, and FWD has its rear end to drag around so it spins. Just practice and get your traction mods done and dont expect to beat an awd just becasue you got 450hp

Now how is having the drive wheels under the weight of the engine a disadvantage? Remember the question was about a standing start a la drag race style.
 
Its all about Practice, the right set up, LSD's help, and slow spool up helps a little to, basically so you aren't getting all that power off the line and the power comes slow instead of all the sudden. Also slipping the clutch help. Good luck.
 
If Fwd is at such a disadvantage then to be beating guys with RWD and AWD off the line just goes to show how skilled FWD drivers must be.

Well, you know. I really agree with this for bad weather traction: snow, rain, mud, ice, etc. But when you launch hard on a dry solid surface (that is not ice), you have weight transfer to the rear. This is in a percentage amount and it rises when you accelerate harder... it can be upwards of 70%. That means that as little as 30% of the original weight pressing down on your front tires is pressing down when you fully accelerate a built up FWD.

T/E/Ls, however, do a good job of not squating, and they actual have a measure of antilift dialed in the suspension that encourages the tires to try to press into the pavement as you accelerate. This balances out with the weight transfer so that you don't lose nearly as much contact patch as with other FWD cars.

Yet, there seams to be a fine balance between this and the antidive characteristics needed for good braking. So there is room for improvement in this aspect of the FWD suspension which will greatly aid in off-the-line grip. From my work, I've found that "shimming" down the rear joint of the front A arms about 1-2 centimeters works very well. And just make sure you have the big brake upgrade and you should stop just fine when you need to.

I have a mustang as well as my gst and physics aside the rwd platform has a traction advantage in a drag race. You ever seen a fwd top fuel car? If fwd has an advantage dont you think they would use it?

Yes, I have seen a FWD top fuel drag car. It was a Scion tC. Fabulous piece of machinerly. Traction bars and all. FWD can me made into "non-disavantage" from my approach mentioned above. However, these guys have FWD traction secrets that they will NOT divulge. Call Shep and ask him how important his FWD traction is on his AWD setup. His only advantage against that Grand National was his FWD portion of his awd set up:thumb: .

Good point, but we're talking about DSMs not top fuel dragsters and we're all getting way off topic.

The question (paraphrased) is "can a GST get good traction?" What he may asking is "How can a GST get traction?"
 
The question was "DOES a gst have like and kind of traction." Im not going to beat a horse to death. Yes you can make a fwd hook up, is it easy-no. Are you still at a disadvantage to RWD/AWD --yes. But in factory form it might be better than some fwd but it is worse than most rwd. Just my .02 and Im done
 
I don't have a gs-t but I do have a 15.6 fwd and it's all about where you launch...I used to only run 16 flats at the same mph as I do now cause I couldn't get traction...find a happy medium and you'll just go
