GS-T owners post your traction problems

id just like to know what its like to drive a turbo fwd thats putting out around 200hp or more to the ground. whats it like during daily driving, in the rain and also racing?

also, what are some of the best ways to improve traction for street driving.

I've got about 250 to the ground right now. I have lots of suspension mods and I chose not to go with a ported turbo so that it spools slower. I only have to feather the throttle in first, after that I only get a slight spin in 2nd and then its over, I'm gone. No wheelhop at all and I don't even have an LSD, yet. When I reach my final goal of 300 at wheels, either a Quaife or a B&M insert is all I think I'll need. I like driving Evolutions, but I also like that mad pull the FWD gives me. I admit I spent a lot more on my suspension & wheels and tires then I have on my turbo and engine upgrades, but it makes all the power usable.

i just recently installed a ported 16g @13-14 psi and my traction problems aren't that bad i'm getting rid of my stiff shocks set up ( tokicos ) and going back to stock b/c i can't stand hitting a bump and feeling like i'm going to go into space. hopefully these motor mounts and this bm lsd will help out enough with the traction when the injectors go in and i run 20-22 psi

I've had my car for about two months now and daily driving is no problem, but when practicing launches the tires would spin to much. Then i tried revin lower, tires would spin a little but when the rpms shot up the tires wouldn't catch. It is probably my tires so i think it is a good idea to invest some money in some serious, high quality, sticky street tires.

Hey this is my first post on these forums, man this site looks great. Ok i had a 1992 tsi, but sold it because i had a ton of problems (most of which i fixed before selling it). One problem was traction. I had a few mods on it, nothing hardcore though. I guess it wasnt too bad, I just want AWD. By the end of the summer, I will have another dsm, this time awd. Anyways it's nice to find another great site for this unique car.

Would Hoosier Drag Racing slicks in size: 24.5x9.0-13 be a good choice? This is for a fairly high HP Eclipse (turbotalon92's old car). He ran MT 26x8-15's and they weren't enough he said. The Hoosiers seem to be a better slick. Any thoughts??

Having the AWD tranny in my FWD is outstanding. If any of you end up replacing the tranny with another, deff. try out the AWD. It has a better gearing to get you down the track. You will be WELL into 4th by the time you end the 1/4.

FWD gearing is better. Its wider than AWD. Longer gears allow you more pull and less shift.

Before in the 2G fwd configuration I was hitting 107mph, with a shift at the end of the track. Once I get this car rolling stronger it will trap alot higher than 107nph and I will already be in 4th to keep the car going. Now with my AWD configuration I am shifting and getting the power going well before the end of the track in 4th gear. Taking it easy on the tranny (needs a rebuild) I got a 1mph better trap with everything the same mod wise. If I would have really gotten on it like I did when the FWD tranny was in it would have been alot better.


It might be better for the highway, but I prefer to keep my liscence and my life. That is why the track is the best place for me to give examples of the gearing.

FWD gearing is better. Longer gears allow you more pull and less shift.

All that pull is good if you have a usable powerband to keep going with it.

I really want to do the whole awd in a fwd thing, the awd 5th gear is taller for better highway gas milleage. as for which is better its all debatable, if you are doing highway runs and have maybe a 60-1 then the longer gears would be better, for street racing( , although i have partaken in it, it is still stupid as all hell) and actual drag strip the faster you can get out of first gear the better, either first gear is to short so you can't get on it regardless, also for road racing having the fwd tranny tends to leave you in between gears, which is a huge problem when you are having ot shift all the time.

I think TRE offers taller 5th gears.

I have done both trans, and ran better with the FWD trans. I had 9000 rpm to play with though. I ran better time and MPH in the FWD trans. The longer gearing lets the turbo do the work, and not shifting out of its rpm range so much. My set-up, was not the average set-up though

Asson as the turbo is upgraded to anything above a 14b you can deff say goodbye to traction is a FWD DSM,

Not to mention that GS-T/TSi's are Highway killers, asson as we hit 3rd say goodbye AWD on the highway.

what tires you use for your run?

Crappy M&H slicks, 22.5 x 8 x 15 (can't remember the size, dsmtrance owns the car now and is upgrading to bigger slicks)
