I'm planning on installing this 90' oil cooler on the 2g and was wondering if anyone has done so before, maybe offer some tips on where and how to mount the cooler. The 2g will already have the complete 6bolt with it's oil filter housing, so all the lines will be used off of the original 1g.

thanks,

heres mine. I know i know its a tube cooler and not a side to side one but it works. Jegs sells a million of them. I mounted mine on that peice of sheet metal that hangs down right there not sure what its origanally for. Its on there real sturdy, and when the bumpers on only the lower half shows through the foglight hole in the bumper so it looks clean and you cant really tell its there.

Agreed, that does look nice. But as I said earlier, I'm doing a Complete 6bolt swap with its oil filter housing, oil lines, and cooler. You would think all you guys that have done the 6bolt swap on your 2g would do the same since the 90 cooler is 'supposedly' better. Guess I'll have to be the first to post pics.

thanks,

Go to a hydraulic, hose, and rubber store and have them make you up some lines and fittings.

Here are pics of mine, aftermarket cooler (car still in progress)

98tsiawd i like the way you mounted yours much better thats alot sturdier. I hammered on that peice hanging down though so air would hit the cooler straight. I dont know how much it hurts the performance of the cooler to be at an angle like that.

as for mounting the original 90 cooler i would suggest getting 4 of the metric to an fittings to connect to the filter bracket and oil cooler to get ride of the banjo bolts. then get ss line made to connect them. Our cars are just too different of a shape to get the old 90 line in a good location.

This is how I did my aftermarket cooler. Its more or less set to be in direct airflow. (Car in progress as well)

I also have a 90 air cooled oil cooler on my talon. Don't have any pics but it was pretty easy. I even used the stock 1g oil lines. Of course i had a pipe bender to help me a little bit but it looks nice.

Yeah seriously, I'm looking to do the oil cooler mod as well. Where can I get one of those sweet oil coolers at??

Ive been rolling around with that damn oil cooler in my front bumper for a while now....Here in a few weeks ill be putting my fmic on and moving the cooler and using an fittings and ss lines....ill make sure to take pics.

does anyone have the part numbers for the filter housing fittings? so i can just tell them what i need when i go to summitt

That might be a better pic. I more or less used this little vfaq here:
http://www.jakelatham.com/1gDSM/projects/oil_cooler/

That is for a 1g but the parts are the same. It has all the part #s etc for the metric to AN fittings. The cooler is a Setrab 19 row. I ordered the cooler and the metric fittings from www.bakerprecision.com. Its huge and probably overkill, but I figured if I am going to have an air cooler here in Phoenix it might as well be a big one. All said and done it was $300 bucks or there about for the cooler, adapters and braided hose, but relative to what's out there like the Greddy kit you definately get a better cooler for less money. :thumb:

I have been meaning to get an oil cooler for a while now too. B&M makes a direct kit for 2gs for $138. It relocates the oil filter and comes with everything you need to install it. Prostreet sells them.

thanks for the info dsmayhem :thumb: thumbs up for that oil cooler SWEET!!!!!! :thumb:

does anyone have the part numbers or dimensions for an fittings for the stock 90 cooler? im going to head to summit here in a few weeks to pick up my stuff and want to make sure i have everything right.

thanks a ton.

What is a good size for an oilcooler?? I live in WA so we see at max 95deg. and it's only for about a month. I've heard to get one the same size as the 90 stocker, but wouldn't the aftermarket stuff be more efficient and smaller??

Also, could you use a tranny cooler instead, on summit they seem to use the two interchangebly.

Man, my thread got jacked to pieces  I installed the 1g oilcooler, stock lines and everything, and it works good :) I routed it similar to the stock location of the 1g. I have a fmic and no signs of overheating with the oil cooler where it's placed so I'm happy. Pics up soon.

did you shorten the 1g lines? When I did my 6bolt swap I used the stock 1g lines and just slapped the cooler in my front bumper, but now i need to move it because of my new setup.

just curious

here is a pic of how i did mine, LOL i know its crappy but its gotta be moved

I really didn't think it was worth taking pictures anymore since all the 7bolt users cannot do this mod. Here's a quick shot of the stock lines running to the front of the car, behind the FMIC:

No overheat, looks like the cooler belongs there, and no hacking. :thumb: Now to get rid of my Misfire...
