90 motor into 91 shell help!!

ok..so my 90 talon tsi is totaled except for the motor. can someone please tell me what would need to be swapped to make this motor run correctly in a 91 shell with 91 electronics? the motor/t-case/driveshaft and axles are all in..i already swapped the TB and CAS. please help!!

You to use these parts off of a 91 to 94.ECU,Throttle body,coil,modual(ignitor),cam angle sensor,TPS(should already be on TB)I think thats it.90s have so much stuff thats 90 only.You should probably change the studs for the throttle body to 91 style also.

the ecu pinouts are different from 90-91, vfaq has the info you need on the wiring. it is only 2 wires.

ive also read 2 different topics on shifter/cable assemblies.

on vfaq.com, it says that you must change almost everything from my 90 (cables,base,arm) and put it onto the 91.

on dsmtalk, someone asked the same question and someone replied with "it will give you a shorter throw if you keep the 91-94 cables on."

i believe vfaq because the source seems more logical. can someone help on this topic also?

It is pretty simple I have done it a few times.

Your only problem are might be the ecu. Some times you can use the 90 ecu and

everything works fine sometimes the car will idle erratically. The tps isnt that big of ideal

as someone stated the vfaq has info on it and it is pretty simple. The coil pack is another

difference not only are the plugs diffrent from a 90 to say 91-94. Also the 90 has the tach

interface, where as in the 91-94 the tach interface is built in.

I did this very swap recently. I used CAS, throttle body, can't remember if I swapped the coil pack but don't think I did. I pulled the 90 ECU and plugged it into the 91 shell also, but I was doing a AT to MT swap so I had to anyway. Oh, also there was something different with the coolant sensors right below the thermostat. I think the 90 had some type of vacuum line attachments and the 91 had electrical connection instead?? Anyway, I just swapped the housing over as well. Good luck

bump! havent tried starting the car yet, but im just waiting on the decision to change the whole shift setup or not? i connected the cables and it didnt seem to shift smoothly at all.

Research, research, research, research. All been done and discussed dozens of times. Changing the tranny will require swapping the cable bracket on the tranny end and possibly the shifter inside the car.

You'll also end up needing to adjust the cables to shift properly. That just takes some time and fiddling around until it feels right.

im actually in the middle of the same swap right now, well im doing a 90 motor into a 92 body, but i got the car running today but the shifters are a problim, i couldnt get my car to go into gear ive been ajudsting the cables and its starting to go into gear so id say fiddling with the cables will fix the shifter problim, the only thing i changed by the way was the coil and cam sensor everything else is from a 90

hey i am about to do a 94-nt to 90-t coversition will it be easier to just swap the hole wireing harness ?????? my 94 is a front wheel drive and the 90 is awd....

You'll want to replace the wiring harness and the ECU with the 90.

True. Yeah, my car runs now but not so hot. Idles a little too high and has an exhaust leak. Not to mention various boost leaks which i have yet to plug. Only thing I hate is that the "abs" light stays on. I can't get the car into reverse yet but everything else is straight to go. Im just going to fiddle with the adjustments a little more and get it perfect. Thanks for all the help!
