Hey guys, i recently pulled my 90 motor from the 1990 car, and am putting it into a 1991
I already got the coil pack, tb, cas, from a 91+ talon, but i also have the Eprom ECU that came out of the 1990 I know it is eprom, but i'm not sure that is a 1990 ECU, because my brother has a 1993 talon and my ecu is currently in his car with no problems, and based on the posts that i have previously read i would have to switch out pins 6 and 14, but we put it in and all is well, tach works and everything. is it a 1990 or 91+

another question
if it is a 91+ ecu, will i need to take off the tacho interface off the 90 coil pack and put it on the 91 coil pack.

And if it is a 90 ecu, will i need it?

thanks again for your advice

First off don't bump your own threads. The mods really hate it and it's against the rules.

If you have the 91 parts then that is all you should need. As long as you swap the coil, and everything else from the 91 it should matter where the block came from since they are all they same. For the ECU I would write down the numbers on it and check the vfaq to see what year it came out of. I'm not sure if you'll have to swap any wires if your using the 91 parts or not so maybe some one else could help you out there. First get the numbers off the ecu though.

Alot of jumbled questions but I just did something similar. Put a 90 motor in a 92. You will find that alot of sensors will not work from the 90 motor in the 91. The throttle body is totally different so you will need a 91 and up throttle body. Also the 90 has an external oil cooler that will have to be addressed. We just pulled the housing from a 91 motor and put it on. As far as the ecu I think dsmlink.com has a page that can help you determine which year your computer is from. You might find the motor mounts might have some differences as well. I had 2 motors from a 91 fwd and there where differences in the mounts so if you can use the mounts from your 91 on the 90 motor. Good luck and get er running.

Most people prefer the 90 style oil coolers over the 91+ units. 91+ are prone to failing and the filters fall off if you don't check them often. If you can I would use the 90 unit since you have it. I'm trying to remember off the top of my head what is different with the wiring. I'm pretty sure it's just the TB, coil pack, cas, and ecu. If you use all these parts from a 91 and a 91 harness everything should just bolt/plug right together.
