Well as some of you may know i dropped a 91 Eclipse GST motor into my 90 Talon TSi AWD. Anyways, does anyone know what all i need to switch over to make this run? Ive tried the 90 coil pack, transistor and CPS and it still wont start. im wonderin if i have to use the 91 parts and do a little wire hackin of my own. if anyone knows, id apperciate the help.

TIA,
Bryan

hmm...yea thats what im using now is all the 90 stuff and it wont start. im just not getting spark. any other ideas?

check and make sure the coil pack and power tr unit are securely bolted down and appear to be in good shape. If those check out, pull th eecu and look at the board under the caps for leak damage.

have you checked your ignition system? before the spark there is ignition, so there might be something that you have missed in the connection??

Silly question, but have you gone through and checked EVERY plug/ground on the engine and tested the ignition components with a meter? It is usually the silly stuff that people miss. Go over all of 'em with a manual and make sure theyeverything is attached and getting power/functional. See if you have power going to the coil plug for example.

For my swap all I changed over was the coil, power transistor, CAS and throttle body.

Ok, There is a Main Relay, Behind the Das, It will be behind were ## Radio Is its Silver, Have you checked that? and if you havent Hit it while your turning it over, Should fire up, But Yea if that dont work, Definatly Check Every Ground Without 1 ground everythings screwed

I just did the same swap... except i used a 92 6bolt....but you can use the ignition stuff from the 91 with a little change in the wiring, if that stuff worked before then id try that there might be something wrong with what your putting in now....The only major change is in order to use the 91 ecu you have to swap the 6 and 14 pins in the ecu, i just cut them and resodered them. Then you juats change the rest as if you were just swapping it in it bolts right in the same spot

I just finished a 1990 AWD engine/tranny into a 1991 AWD AT chassis. Because of the wiring in the 1991 chassis, I used the throttle body and the CAS from the 1991 and swapped the ECU. I did not modify the harness at the ECU connectors at all so I am not sure what that is about. Mine started and ran fine with no other wiring issues that I can recall.

yea well im the opposite of ya. i just cant figure out why i have no spark. the motor ran fine when it was in my eclipse so it has to be something that i did.

On That Main Relay, Pull out Your Radio, and look, There is a Bar that runs across, and there will be a Silver Box, That has "Mitsu" wrote on it or something like that, Its setting Right next to the ECU, and that Box is the PowerHouse of the ECU, without this Your screwed, Believe me, Tried cranking a Car 2 hours with no main Relay, So check that and if you dont have one, Get one and if you have one, Beat on it a little, and if your lucky You found the Problem

Pull out Radio
Look Next To ECU
Silver/Gray Box (Not Big at All)

Get Back to Me with The answer Good Luck

If you replace the coil you'll also need to swap out your gauge cluster. The 90 tachometer uses a different voltage system than every other year out there.

You can also reach the box ^^^ is talking about easier by pulling the carpeted kick pannel on the center console passenger's side. If the '90 ran before the swap though it is probably fine.

Also, have you done your voltage readings yet? Let us know if you have any power going to to the coil pack plug.

Yea there is another thread on this site that goes step by sdtep on how to use the 91 igniton parts, i couldnt find it again, but it was on here, i actually had to rewire my whole harness for the fuel rail, I have lots of spark but no gas yet so you do have to switch those wires

if your using all the 90 electrical parts you need to use the 90 ecu, simple as that.

well ill definitley use that then. as for spark, i still have no leads as to why it doesnt have any.
