Right now i have a 90 gsx. i live in buffalo and it is rusted bad. after i was rear ended, the frame is all rusted and i would really just like to buy a shell from down south. i just want to throw in my motor into the other shell. i have a 91-94 dsmlink ecu (not in my car now). First question, what do i need to change for the motor to work. I know if i wanted to put the 91 ecu in my 90 i would have to hack up the transistor. but if i wanted to put a 90 motor into a 91 what exactly would i have to do. Is thier any other compatibility things that i will have to worry about. Thanks

Unless you pick up another '90 shell I would just look at your existing motor as a longblock.
Use all the sensors, electronics, throttle body and harness from the later car.

I totally forgot the the harness should still be on the car. But i know the engine is gone so i don't think i will get the throttle body. is it common that all of the sensors are left though, like the transistor.

No you'll want to find all of them rather than use the crap from the '90.
There was afterall a reason why the factory changed that stuff over.
If the original engine is gone you'll need to source the 91+ engine harness, sensors, throttle body, fuel rail, coils, power transistor, etc.

I know people have done swaps where they used the '90 style parts on a later car but IMHO it looks like they pieced a bunch of junk together.

so the throttle body and etc is different on the 90s cars. how do you tell because im trying to figure out what yr my 6 bolt motor i swapped in is? and all i know so far is that its a pre 92 because on the cam angle sensor the wires come out of it instead of going into it to the harness.....

On engines that came from DSMs the change happened between 90 and 91.
JDM engines may have changed before or after but we call the earler setup a 90 style.

There may be serial number in the block that could tell you the exact year but I don't know the details or if it's the case.

Only the 90 cas had a pigtail. 91 and newer had the harness plug into the cas. The tb on 91-94 had 4 ports on top where the 90 had 2 coming from the side. There are some differences in the coil, fiav, and power transistor also so those will be needed for plug and play(fiav should come with tb). If you need the parts, pm me and I can help you out. I have all the spare parts for the conversion just lying around.
