I have searched around forums a bit and read through many many threads about axles for the 90-91 FWD dsms. I have a new 90 FWD project and I have a couple of thoughts but need a little more information.

I have come across a couple different options.

1. equal length half shafts. I really like this option and have read up on the conversion a fellow member has shared. This essentially uses the smaller axles from an AWD model.

2. 92-99 big axles. This one has been harder to come by or information. I happen to have a quaife front LSD from my 99 GST. I was interested in the possibility of having this in the new 90 FWD project. From what I have read, people speculate all day long but never have any answers. I do believe this can be done from what I have read, but have no confirmation on this option.
If the quaife fits, are different bearings on the differential needed?
Would 93-94 axles work for this?

Here are some more helpful threads for option #1.

2g FWD E.L.H.S. mod (AWD driver axle)

It seems like you have read a lot and know how easy a swap it is on your car since it is a 90-early 92 and has the smaller spline shaft.

For #2, if the plan was to put the quaife in your existing transmission, no it won't work. You would need a quaife from an awd in order to use your existing transmission.

In order to use the quaife from the 99, you would have to use the transmission out of the 99, or any late 92-99 transmission and matching t-case. The 90-early 92 transmissions in fwd 1gs use the smaller spline shaft that goes into the transmission and the quaife won't fit.

Also, just in case you didn't know, all 1g hubs are the same.

Hope this helps, and good luck in whatever choice you go with!

By smaller spline shaft, are you referring to the half shaft splines? From what I had read, it seems the quaife would fit in the trans, but the issue would be half shafts. In this case possibly using later model half shafts in place of the smaller splined current half shafts.

By smaller spline shaft, yes I am referring to the spline count at the diff and inner halfshaft/cv joint meeting point. Sorry if that wasn't clear LOL.

I have not ever done this, so I can't give a 100% answer, but I can give you a 99.9% sure that it will physically fit into the 90 trans. You might need some different bearings though as the ones that fit the Quaife in the 2g trans might be different in a 90.

This thread should help.

Or you could try contacting Shep or twicks69, as they seem to be able to provide all the different bearing sizing and applications.

Also, yes you would have to use the later 93+ larger axles.

I hope this has helped you out some! Sorry if I just confused you more. Hopefully twicks69 will stop in and just tell you exactly what to do LOL.
