Ok here's the lowdown. I've got a revised 7 bolt in my car that's in great shape. Perfect compression across the board. I'm in the process of building a separate 2g head with all the bells and whistles and I'm doing most of it myself with the help of a very experienced friend.

I've priced out stroker shortblocks and am amazed at the cost. I know it's labor intensive and all that so I've decided it's going to be more feasible to do it myself. With the help of the local machine shop and my buddy who's built a dozen performance motors.

What should I expect as far as cost realistically? I've got a 100mm crank from a Galant with a blown tranny. I've had it inspected and it's good to go.

It's going to be E85 so I am thinking 9 to 1 compression.

Assuming there's no major damage to my block what type of machine shop bill should I expect?

What are some good rod/piston combos for a 2.3?

I'm weighing the cost of a stroker against just rebuilding it as a 2.0.

If anyone has experience with building a 2.3 themselves please chime in with total cost of the shortblock with all of the assembly being done by myself and my friend.

Thanks.

Machine bill is going to vary from shop to shop. I've been using TheDSMGraveyard's machine shop prices as a rough guide for what I can expect for labor.

As for pistons and rods, it depends on how far you're going to go as far as power, but since you're going with a 4G64 stock crank, I'll assume you're not gonna be shooting for more than 500whp.

If thats the case you would be fine with Wiseco piston and Eagle rod combo. If you want a little bit more in terms of bottom end strenght, you could go with a JE piston / Manley Turbo Tuff rod combo, but that will add about $500-600 over the Wiesco/Eagle combo.

A stroker is a great way to go, especially for one thats mostly a DD. The only thing that worries me is the extra strain on the trannys from the added torque on the lower end of the powerband. Obviously when you start making major power, your tranny needs to be upgraded no matter what, but it's something to consider.

Currently building my stroker. I went with weisco 2.3 pistons and Eagle H beam rods. Cost me around 700 dollars shipped. Make sure you get the pistons bored .20 over. A machine bill should be pretty cheap to get the block bored .20 over.

Honestly its just around the same price to build a a stroker vs non-stroked. The only problem I have ran into is I can't find a crank shaft.

The fact that you already have a built head and a OEM crank shaft, total price should be under 1000$. If you want to sell that crank let me know LOL.

just letting you know twicks69 is making 800+ hp on a 7 bolt crank from a hyundai.

And some people have made over 500whp on a stock bottom end. What's your point? One guy isn't the sum of all people. It can be done, but it's a risk. There are likely more people out there that have blown a stock 4G64 crank to pieces than there are running 700+ on them.

If you want to risk it, be my guest. I'd rather be safe than sorry if I was shooting for some really high HP. Same goes for the Eagle Rods. I'm sure they're just fine, but when others are specifically rated for that kind of power, it goes without saying that it's an easier sell. It all boils down to doing what you personally want to do, and what risks you're willing to take.
