Ok I am replacing a the motor in a 2g auto with a 4g64. I need you guys to look down the parts list and point out what is mising or answer questions.

what gasket kit head gasket do I get?

What knock sensor?

Timing belt?

tensioner?

4g64 DOHC cam gears
4g64 block and crank already machined
Wiseco piston installed on rods
also the hard parts off the blown engine

Sounds like pretty much it. If your running a 63 head then you want a 63 head gasket. Also get the gasket to the right bore if you bored your engine for the pistons. If your using parts from an engine that had bearing failure then make SURE you clean EVERYTHING! You dont want to ruin you new engine because of metal shavings left behind.

Oil pan fits, use the turbo oil pan because of the turbo oil drain.
Pretty basic

you need a 94 galant gs timing belt and 94 galant gs headgasket. In 94 they made a 2.4 dohc 4g64 but just that year only. Headgasket you can get from extreme psi or dealer. Timing belt is 154 tooth belt for the galant gs. You will need a 2g knock sensor and you need to plug some holes on your block. you will need to order 4g64 dohc tming gears because the 2.4 is 6mm higher so the marks wont line up properly if you use your stock 4g63 marks.

That about covers it. Check the oil pan clearance for the rod bolts and such..

Also on the water pipe mounting tab you will have to open up the hole a good bit so you can angle the water pipe to meet the thermostat housing which has raised up 6mm.

What he said

Ok I have the block (done), the cam gears, 2g knock sensor and 94 4g64 timing belt. But is the head gasket different from the 4g63 head gasket

Head gasket is differnt in the aspect that its a 2.0 bore vs a 2.4 bore. You need to get a 94 galant gs headgasket. There are only about 5 left in the mistu warehouses in the united states but other companies do make them such as extreme psi.

I don't want to get anyone confused. The info above is wrong what make the 2.0 different from the 2.4 is the stroke not the bore size. So with that being sad 2.0 head gaskets work but you do need to check you over bore size on both to get the proper gasket

How do you figure i have a 2.4 head gasket and i have a 2.0 headgasket the 2.0 is smaller. i believe the 2.4 is 86.6mm. I have a 4g64 with a 4g63 head in my car and the 4g63 headgasket would not work. They made a 1.8 2.0 and a 2.4 that all share the same block so your telling me that they all share the same size cylinder but share different cranks? Not true the 4g64 crank is different from the 4g63 it has a longer stroke. The 4g63 rods are identical part number as 2g 4g63 rods, everything is the same except pistons and bore diameter in the 7 bolt. The 4g64 block is 6mm higher because the 2.4 has a longer stroke of 6mm. Get a good 4g64 with rods crank pistons etc. All you need to do is change the pistons and you have a bottom end good up to 300 plus hp. If you wanna run a high compression motor like me get stock size pistons and ordered them forged. I am running 10 to 1 compression on e85 with 20 psi and i am getting no knock.

Ok you are correct, I went through my Paypal and I do have a 4g64 headgasket but you can get 86.5 4g63 head gasket from several places Pueter.com and slowboy being a couple of them(if it's not on site just call). You are correct the part numbers for the rods(didn't say they where different) and by say the crank is different you verified that the stroke is different.

i dont understand how the deck being 6mm higher means we have to run different gears.
The gears determine when the valves are open relative to tdc. I am having a very large problem running my new 2.4l with the 4g64 gears. I am about to swap back to stock becauyse it feels like ive skipped a tooth even though the timing is 100% accurate as verified by 3 people. Someone please tell me why we need the 64 cam gears

Your thinking about it to hard LOL. The 4g63 cam gears are identical to the 4g64 dohc cam gears that came on the 94 galant gs except the timing marks on the gears are off bye a half a tooth. Just time it like it would be a 4g63 motor except move the exhaust above the intake and it will pull the intake down a half a tooth so in theory moving the exhaust up a half tooth and intake down a half a tooth gives u the full tooth u nee to advance bye. For whatever reason even though the motor spins counter clockwise you have to move the exhaust up to advance timing ya makes no sense but im 120 percent sure thats how it has to be. pm me if u need any help ill send ya pics

OH btw take your valve cover off when your timing the motor it will make more sense when you can see where the cam lobes actually are in relation to your timing marks.

Ok just got the car back from paint. What is the fel pro part # for the head gasket for the 2.4 DOHC

good luck finding it in fel pro. If you go to orielly auto parts, napa, checker, advance auto, autozone, or just about any other auto parts store and tell them you need a headgasket for a 94 galant gs with a dohc the gasket crosses to the single over head cam gasket. Extreme psi or dealer is the only place i could find reasonable to get it from. When i bought mine there was 5 left in the mistu ware houses in the united states. The timing belt has to be the 154 tooth timing belt also NOT 153

Yes I did my son currently has it at colleage with him. The car looks stock and dpendable, the only key that it has all the mods is that is that it has no MAFS. The Car made 430 whp before I saved tune and retuned to 290 whp. He enjoy the music more than speed(better for my pocket).
