7 bolt 2.3 Questions????

Ok so I picked up a 7 bolt block off a guy that told me its ready for a 2.3 stroker build. He is a reliable truthful person and I have dealt with him before for other stuff, but my question is this: Why does this 7 bolt have a crank gurdle like a 6 bolt and not caps??:confused:
 
To prevent flex..? Why do people buy the gurdles for the 6bolt? All 7 bolts have the gurdles. Does this shortblock already has the 100mm crank in it? If not, i think some shaving needs to be done. Not sure about that gurdle..
 
If its a Stroker the pistons will come to the edge of the block. Non strokers have about an inch or so between the top of the piston to the top of the block.
 
A inch? wth kind of motor you building man? What do you mean by that?

+1 my 2.0 pistons came flush to the top with zero deck milling. :confused:

The 7-bolts don't have caps like a 6 bolt, they have a girdle. So I'm confused by the original question.
 
1/2 1/4 of an inch... Same difference. Either way, it won't be flush. Hence the extended STROKE of the engine.
 
That didn't show me anything.. Yeah, it wouldn't be flush if he was using stroker pistons(6mm offset) with a 150mm rod.(which in one of the links you posted he was) Those pistons have a 6mm offset so he would need a 156mm rod.
 
Your question is somewhat confusing, did you not know that 7-bolts came with girdles?
Or....that the 2.4L block has girdles?

Not true at all. Be glad I'm feeling generous today and didn't deduct rep for that. On any 4G63/4 build, you should end up with the pistons VERY close to zero deck. If you end up 1/4" below deck at TDC, you have a serious problem.

I think he might be referring to a 2.4 block with 4g63 rods and pistons?
Stock 7 bolt 64 and 63 rods are the same part. Even if you can find 0.060" or larger oversize standard compression height pistons meant for a 63, putting them in a 64 changes their compression ratio.

Its just a bare block. And Im not sure if its a 2.3 or a 2.4L for sure. I know he said to get a 4g64 crank or 100mm equivelent.
Look at the engine ID pad on the left side of the block, that will tell you which you'll have.
 
It looks like you have a 2.4 7 bolt block with 2.0 7 bolt cranckshaft. Maybe that's why you are getting that 1/4 " on top. Make sure you have a 4g63 block with 4g64 100mm cranckshaft, rods will be the same on 4g64 and 4g63 and 4g63 pistons, the compression ratio is up to you.
 
If its a bare block with a girdle and the guy said to get a 4g64 crank.... You have a 4g63 7 bolt and it is a 2.0L. It is only considered a 2.3L when it has the 4g64 (2.4L) crankshaft in the 63 block. A 2.1L is the 63 crank into a 64 block. Otherwise the blocks are 2.0 or 2.4 there are no 2.3 blocks factory.
