Currently rebuilding my 7 bolt... Not looking to use the weak stock Rods with the 12mm rod bolts ever again.

I know that the 2G pistons will NOT work on forged rods (Eagle, Scat, Etc.) and 1G rods Require machining both to accept the 2G piston and fit on the 2G crankshaft which is highly pricey so I hear.

So is a Forged Piston/Rod combo my only route? Im not looking to do a 6 bolt swap either! Lol
 
There are built rod/piston combos going for 300bucks sometimes!

Id definitely go the built route especially since theyre being let go for cheap!

1g big rods are way thicker than 2gs and need to fall into 2g crank play specs to fit and can hold more pressure but 6bolt pistons are lower compression thus weaker and arent fully floating i believe. Correct me if im wrong.

The car is a daily we already have a fully built 1G...not looking for crazy power it will be around 350-400 range, what does everyone think about EVO 8/9 piston and rod setup... Are the EVO rods stronger than the 2G rods?
 
You really could get away with keeping the stock rods at that power level. I'm still running stock 7-bolt rods. (343whp -11-sec 1/4) And there's a 2g 7-bolt stock bottom end car that went 9's. The car was lightened quite a bit, though.

HOWEVER, it is apart already, so it wouldn't hurt to just build it. But if you're on a tight budget, you could run the stock ones and be ok. Just make sure the tune is good, and all that stuff. Bad tunes kill more cars than anything.

You could do the EVO rods, as well. But again, if your going through the hassle of switching rods, I'd just go forged.

I went 11.90s with that motor until the rod bolts failed... Anyone pushing the tiny 12mm rod bolts is at risk, depending on the engines life it lived, miles, etc. I had a 11 sec flat 7 bolt car with a s259 on stock rods and pistons never fail, these failed in this motor with a 16G on race gas. Not my first walk in the park with these just had a few questions about the rods LOL, Obviously don't have a large budget for this car.
 
Rod bolts are another aspect. I do have ARP rod bolts in mine... it's been running on race gas and 11's for over a year. The guy running 9's finally blew it up after 2 or 3 years of abuse. Sure, anything stock will be a risk after a certain point. But they do design these cars well from the factory. From watching people's builds on various makes and models, it seems that 500hp is the threshold before things get real risky.

But this is going off topic... just speaking form experience on stock stuff. I'm still one of those people that believe that if its out and apart, might as well upgrade it, regardless.
