After browsing your forums, I couldn't quite find my answer, but hopefully someone will know.

I am the current owner of a 1995 Eagle Talon ESI. I acquired a 1995 Chrysler Sebring LXi last summer, and used most of the interior in the Talon, fog lights, etc. To my surprise, most of it fit, and made my Talon look much better than what it did before. I'm not looking at swapping out the stock 4G73 engine for a V6 6G73, but there are a couple of things that have me kind of hesitant. First of all, I've done the measurements according to DSM, the engines are on the same angle, etc. and the motor mounts are the same. The thing that worries me is that the Sebring comes with 2 computers, but the Talon only has one. The wiring harnesses are similar, but the Sebring has a second hookup for a computer. So, I should be able to swap the wiring harness out of the cars for each one, then hook up the computers? Second thing I may have an issue is, is that there is an automatic transmission in the Sebring, which I like, but I'd much rather prefer to keep my 5-speed in the Talon. If the transmissions bolt up, can I use the 5-speed on the V6 engine? I figure if it bolts up, then it should work, correct?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

First off search, and secondly thats a 420a in that ESI of your's. The V6 of the sebring is not a bolt in affair by any means but anything is possible. If you really want to change the motor out take the short block from the cloud cars of the same area with the 2.4L I4 and use your head. But I think you may need to do a wee bit more searching.

The other computer you are seeing is more than likely the transmission controller for the automatic. None of the v6 cars recieved a 5-speed option. However, the 3.0L cars did. The A-543 manual trans from the k-based chrysler cars (shadow, daytona, spirit, ect) with the 3.0L *should* work since the 2.5 and 3.0 blocks have the same bellhousing pattern.

The bellhousing bolt pattern between the 4cly and 6cly cars are different.

This would be quite a project; but it can be done.

People have swapped 6gs into dsm before. Since my brother has had a few tt stealths I know a little about them. No reason to swap a 6g73 though. Single cam 6g72 have the belts on the same side as a 420a. Obviously not a drop in swap. 3g eclipes did come with single cam 6g72s but a different version. Will take some modification to the motor mounts.

If you are set on this swap you need to do some research on ASOG.net they will be able to help you more. But as far as the manual for the 6g73 there have been a few people who have adapted the v6 manual trans out of the 3g eclipses (also 1g stratus coup and 2g seabring coup). It took some custom work for the flywheel. But that was 5-6 years ago I was looking to do the swap, so there might be some production parts now available.

If this worked I would have know about it. As far as I recall the k-cars were 3.3's A Chrysler engine with a different bell housing pattern. There are the 2.5 is mistu and the 3.0 is mistu (the 3.0 was only available in the stratus and seabring coups).

So you want a 6g73 off an Avenger or Sebring to replace the 420A. It may be possible since the Avengers/Sebring do come with 420A in their lower trims and its possible that the mounts are in the same location. I have thought about it many times, but i was thinking of 6g74 (3.5L) being dropped in the RS/GS engine bay. In that case and if you want manual transmission, you'll need one off 3g Eclipse with v6 engine(im not sure if Stratus Coupe comes with manual). If you want automatic you can either use the Avenger/Sebring, 99-03 Galant V6, V6 Stratus coupe, or V6 3g Eclipse transmission. You'd also may want to have 99-00 Galant/Eclipse engine harness.

I'll have to look into the engine mounts more. It's so hard to find these 420A Avengers. I mostly see the 6g73 ones

...and wire harness and ECU to work with this conversion .... Plus, beefing up the front end to handle that added weight.

I had wild dreams of doing a 6G72 since the crank twisted the same direction as the 4cyl (from a Mitsu Diamante) and uses the same F4A22 tranny, but motor mounts, rebuild the chassis and electical was the blocks in the dream, thus I gave that one up quickly.

Screw the 6g72/3/4. I have it in my 3g and it's a great stock motor, but if you want power the build to go with is the non mivec 6g75 out of the 04+ galant. It's an easy near 300whp motor with bolt on's and tune and will bolt up to any 6gXX series motor as well as whatever comes in the daytona (can't remember what all else). There's a member of club3g and ASC that is doing the 75 swap with a daytona tranny in his avenger and it's coming along quite well (however he's spending a ton of money and it's not a "drop in" affair)

The 3.3L was offered in the Dynasty and Caravan.. the smaller cars got the mitsu 3.0L SOHC 12V. Used to have a few shadows with this engine. The reason it may not work is because those transmissions are cable and not hydraulic, like most of the mitsu cars are.. and honestly I don't know what's involved in making that work.

The 3.0L in the stratus/sebring is the 24V SOHC version.

Shadow w/Chrysler verison of the 3.0L. (intake is different)

since it wouldn't let me link the picture:

oh.. and one of the coolest prototypes that never was to be; the SOHC 12V 3.0L Turbo. That was suppost to go in a Dodge Daytona.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I knew some work would have to be put into it to have that engine in, if I could get it in - man it would be freakin' sweet.

As for a Turbo on the 420A, how hard exactly is it to turbo the stock engine? I know it's not an easy task, but with an entire kit, can someone do it in their own garage if they wanted to?

It's not that hard, but if this is a question you need to ask, then you shouldn't be turboing your car until you do more research, and definitely not swapping motors.

these are 8 valve motors, they have a little buzz, but still weak

it's all good with the 6g75, but it's $2k motor and it's still rare . the other ones can be found for around $200-250 at the junk yard

I just read through the Avenger build on club3g. It's very impressive. I have to say it's a bolt on affair if he had used 3g/Stratus coupe manual transmission. He went with the Dodge trans and this is where he had to fabricate things

it's a 6g72 3.0L 12 valve motor

yeah, i was thinking of that it had 2 valves per cylinder.

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this swap but I have put a 6g73 in my 98 eclipse GS. The motor mounts for the 420a are the same as the 6g73. I had to swap the entire wiring harness. I used the transmission, cv axles and gauge cluster from the 99 sebring that I took it out of. I have pictures to prove it if anyone would like them. There is a noticeable difference in the power from the 6g73 but not much. If I hadn't destroyed the engine and transmission racing it, I never would have done the swap.

Could always step up to the 3.0 like all the 6g73, guys do on ASEC. Here's the write up - Sign In - ASEClub

Edit - let me know if the link works or not, asec recently went through some troublesome bots and sometimes require people to log in. If that's the case I'll copy and paste the info.
