How do I tell if I have a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt?
Will x part from a 6 bolt fit a 7 bolt?
Will x part from a 7 bolt fit a 6 bolt?
Which one is better?
How do I swap my x bolt for an x bolt?

What is the difference between 6-bolt and 7-bolt engines (aside from the obvious - 6 vs. 7 bolts connecting the flywheel :p )

Is there an advantage over either of the two engines?

Thanks,

-Mike

hi
i asked this before but no one really knew about it.
so i have a 1g 6 bolt block and i have a 1g 7 bolt head. it looks the same as my 6 bolt head, only it has 2 extra holes which are oil or coolent not sure. my 6 bolt block doesnt have them and my 6 bolt head doesnt have them. My question is can i just bolt it on and not worry about it. or is there something i have to do in order to make this work.let me know only if you tried this or know for sure. dont guess please.
thanks guys

It would be easier to help if you could post a picture of both of the heads and point out where the diferences your talking about are.

I honestly have never seen a head that is missing those two holes. Im not being a a$$ but are you sure there isnt any extra gasket material covering them up. It doesnt look like there is but that is weird.

Here is picture I pulled off of Jacksons that shows all of the holes. And the two heads I have in the garage both have all of the holes.

As long as it is a 4g63 head, there should not be a problem. I drilled the holes out on my 2g head and it fit the 6 bolt block just fine. The only difference I know of is the exhaust manifold studs are larger on the outside(the two end ones). Thats the only real difference I have ever heard of between the two (1g6bolt and 1g7bolt). So, in other words, you should be fine.

I recently stroked a 7 bolt motor to a 2.3 now i have a 6 bolt motor and wanted to know if i could swap the parts over? I do not want to buy a new stroker kit.

is this possible? if not why? what are the differences between the two blocks?

No it is not possible. The crank journals in the engines are diferent.

i just need the casing. i have a 1g 7 bolt block with a complete stroker kit. I planned on swapping everything over and turning the 6 bolt to a 7 bolt. i know it sounds weird and why would i want to do that but i just need the block itself. will this still work

i plan on swapping everythng over to include the crank

Why don't You try swapping the 6-bolt rods and pistons into the 7-bolt block. I beleive some people with 7-bolts swap to 6-bolt rods/pistons for the stronger rods and lower compression.

-Just a thought.

can i use my forged pistons and rods from my stroker kit on the 6 bolt motor. or do i have to buy a whole new kit?

what else is or is not interchangeable between the two blocks.

The picture you put up is definitely a 6 bolt bottom end. It would help if you told us what year car this is in, but the pic you put up is a 6 bolt.

the guy tolled my friend its a 98 2g with a swap ### the other motor had to manny miles but sens my friend wasnt looking for anything to race and if its a 6bolt ima find him a 7 bolt and keep that 6bolt :thumb: LOLcuz he got a 240sx but its in the shop he just wants the clipse for a beater.

I blew my engine in my 99 gsx so looking for a 6 bolt, my friend has a 91gsx auto that he is selling. I looked on vfaq, but still cant tell. I looked on the door today it was made Dec of 90, and hear is the pic i took, hopefully 6 bolt.

it should be a 6 bolt. i dont know why anyone would swap a 7 bolt from a 6 bolt. but you cannot tell if its a 6 bolt from that pic. feel around the lip (where the oil pan is bolted to the block) of the oil pan just under the harmonic balancer. if its flat, its a 6 bolt. if its slightly rounded, its a 7 bolt.
