Quick question....

If my headstuds show NO sign of wear and still measure the standard length.. are they reusable? I know they are not Torque to Yeild... so I was just curious. I'm not even planning on going over 15PSI max with this once it's turbo'd. I've seen this tossed around. Some say yes, some say no... just looking for something to sway me in one direction or the other.

Thanks!

Awesome. ;D I appreciate it! I haven't checked them yet.. so yeah.

What's the recommended torque I should use to be safe?

studs? or bolts? If ARP head STUDS.. yes you should have no issues...

if they are the OEM/factory head BOLTS... I have read where they are NOT TTY, so if they are in good shape you should be able too.

A definite Yes..

Especially if your not planning on going over 15psi

Torque depends on what you last torqued them down to... Lets say you last had them at 75ft lbs, then id go to 80ft lbs this time.. but not past 90ft lbs

People have different opinions on the limit of Standard ARP headstuds torque, i tend to never go past 90ft lbs

OH! My mistake. I meant Bolts! >.< My goof. I'm at work. Hahah. Remote accessing a DB and talking about cars, I go off sometimes.

So about 80? I haven't removed this head yet, so I don't know what they have been torqued to. I suppose factory specs. I'm going to be installing 1G turbo pistons and such. I jumped a tooth on my timing belt, and LUCKILY the cams stopped with the valves CLOSED. The crank just spun in place and never moved the timing belt. Lucky me.. @_@ None of the rockers are laying in my valve cover... when I get home I'll find out if there is any internal damage. Either way, turbo pistons are going in.

Thanks for the help guys!

Torque for stock head bolts on the 2.0l is 65-72 ft lbs cold, per the FSM.

For ARP's, the actual torque value depends on the lubricant used. For the moly lube that those studs come with, I believe it is 85 ft. lbs, and if motor oil is used it is 120 ft. lbs. (don't quote me on those numbers).

Be sure to torque them in the right sequence, in 3 stages..with the largest separation coming at the last step. (for example, 25, 45, and 85 ft. lbs.)

OT, but I grew up in Paragould (from 5 to 12 yrs old anyway)....wow. Haven't thought about that little town in over 30 years. :)

Thanks for the information! It'll definantly help me out. ;3 Gotta show these little badly turbo'd Civics with no tuning what a real car is.

Paragould... haha.. I moved here 6 years ago. DSM are few and far between. The only GSX i've seen was litteraly ran until the tranny fell out. 1-2-3-2 S-h-h-hift! ;D God it was hillarious. That guy didn't deserve that car.

But yeah... The town is small... it's nice. I see you're in OKC. Don't happen to work at the Teleflora HQ there do you? Hahah.

well you may have got lucky.... but I would not bet on it...not all the valves will be closed at the same time....even tho the cams stoped.. but the crank spun around.. I would count on 2 if not 4 valves being bent

Well, the way it stopped, the dowel pins on the CAM gears were Down. I spun the crank and didn't hear a single tick. It never stopped or anything, turned over smooth. I then rotated the crank so as (I assume) no pistons were near the valves and rotated the cam gears to TDC and timed them up. When I take off the head when I get home, I'll see if there is any damage. I'll post pictures here when I get it up and looked up.

IF... and that's a big IF.... there is no damage... I'll feel like I've won JThe Price is Right.
