It's been a long time since I posted. I got rid of my 2g I bought a dodge challenger and I love my challenger to death but Ever since then I missed my eclipse. Well I just recently acquired a 91 Mitsubishi eclipse gst with a blown motor. I got it for free!!!! Yes for free!!! The body is in good shape no major dents dings or anything like that! The interior is almost perfect! It needs a new headliner and that's about it!! It still has the block the head turbo pretty much everything. What happened was the guy who owned it was driving it and one of the pistons smacked a valve. Well free! Sounds like a good price!! So now I would like to get a good budget rebuild going on. I heard NPR pistons are good and there priced good. Im looking to spend around or under 1500. I've been gone for awhile so the market may have changed. There may be some good products out there for moderate prices now. So if anyone can help me out. It's been awhile since I've done this. Last time i done it i used npr pistons and some other fairly cheap stuff and It ran fine. I'll post some pics up later when I get the car move to my house! Thanks everyone in advance!!!

are you trying to just rebuild the motor back to stock or do you have hp goals? i would check out thedsmgraveyard.com for pistons. and epn from ebay makes valves, they sold me a whole kit with valve guides valves and the revised lifters for under 200 its a great deal and the products are suprisingly nice. the only thing i wouldnt go cheap on are any of the timing components.

Yes I'm sorry I'm going for a stock rebuild for now. I was looking at an evo3 setup if it's the right price. I'll check them out thanks man I appreciate it

What I'm thinkin of doing is getting some new NPR pistons and piston rings and get my rods reconditioned with new wrist pins, Arp rod bolts with some acl bearings. Depending on the shape of the block I might go with a slight overbore. Should I go with 2g pistons? I don't need to go for power I have a car alrdy that has plenty of power for me.

Ahhh..The other C word thats used to often of this site.

Hey man u gotta do what u gotta do. At the time I had no ride and needed it fixed pronto. Now I have the time and the money to get it done right. NPR made some good pistons. And I've read some posts on them and they seem pretty good. I don't need to spend 1000 bucks on pistons when all I plan on doing with it is driving 8 miles to work in the winter an 8 miles back home. I have a brand new car for all my other needs. This time I'm going to do it right. But I still have a budget.

what do you mean when when you say the motor is blown? if you're on a budget, there might be a reasonable chance you don't need to do a full rebuild of the motor.

if compression is low, you should be able to just give the motor a ring and valve job and save yourself the expense of having to bore out the cylinders, buy oversized pistons, etc.

if the block threw a rod, you might be able to just pull the crank and have it turned, then put oversized bearings in and have a drivable car.

something to think about at least...

in either case, regardless of how much you have to spend/how far you want to go restoring your block, make sure to replace the timing belt, swap out the balance shaft bearings/use a BSEK, and swap out the water pump.

What I mean by a blown motor is the timing had jumped when the guy was driving it and a piston ate a valve. Thats all that had happened to it. But I was told if your gonna rebuild the top or the bottom u might as well rebuild it all. But I'll absolutely do a bsek. I don't want to deal with the Hassle of a balance shaft belt. I'll make sure to get a new water pump!

partsdinosaur.com has all the gaskets and belts, PLUS the water pump. I have my cart tally'd (tallied)(sp?) at $212 USD for every bit of sealing including the turbo and its oil lines. My block is away getting bored from one hole-y piston, the kid before did to it. Best of luck on the new build

What im doing for my "budget" build on my 6 bolt...is going with Evo pistons on 1g rods-the rods need machined to fit evo or 2g pistons, which is a good mod 1g guys do a good bit. 2g pistons give a higher compression ratio vs the 1g pistons. (Evo pistons also have a higher ratio, but a little less than a 2g piston.)

I bought new 1g rods already machined for 2g/Evo pistons for 75 bucks, and got a set of low mile Evo pistons/rods for another 75. Im sure i can make back at least half of my money after selling the 1g pistons/rods, as well as the Evo rods, to help cover the cost of new rings/bearing.
