I'm running a gt30 and I'm getting 5 counts of knock at 5k rpm. I'm using 93 octane pump gas. Is this normal? should i decrease timing some? I'm using a dsmchips chip and safc.

Is there any timing changes in the DSMchip? The stock 1g timing map increases pretty quickly between 5000 & 6000 rpms. I am attaching a screen shot of the 1g timing curve shown in DSMLink.

I really wouldn't expect 1.8* of knock on stock CR though. I am running 28 psi and 9:1 CR with 19-20* timing and no knock on 93 pump.

Whats your AFR?

What plugs you running?

Have you run seafoam lately to get rid of any carbon build up that could cause preignition?

my wideband is currently not working. Everything is plugged up just it needs to be calibrated. I've been dealing with other issues with the car which is why it hasn't been done already. I had a hole in my IC and it would get crazy amounts of knock around 15 psi. So i thought it was the hole causing it being that my maf was seeing x amount of air coming it and some of it was blowing out the hole. Well now i put the new IC on and everything is good and tight now just now i see 5 counts at 5k.

The ecu doesn't have any timing changes made to it atleast i didn't request any. As far as injectors I'm using BPR6ES gapped at what I believe is .032. The head has just been pressure washed and the pistons had a little carbon on it when i put the motor back in about a month ago (30 miles ago). No i haven't ran any seafoam. EVER

You really need your wideband working to insure what your afr's are doing, so you can adjust your fuel. Try gapping your plugs at .028

Yeah I kinda figured i did just a keep running short of time while fixing other crap and wiring from previous owners. I'll try to get at getting that working this week. I only work on the car once a week. Also are they plugs ok or should i go with bpr7's or 8's?

Well i threw in some Bpr7es's gapped at .028, checked/fixed timing, got my wideband configured, checked for boost leaks and got rid of a small one off the nipple on the TB. So now it holds 25psi bleeding down to zero after a few mins. I was running WAY rich in boost and lean at idle and cruise. So i started removing and adding fuel here and there. Now my knock gauge flickers a little under wot but under partial throttle I'm getting tons of knock. Like 15 counts. Under boost I'm fluctuating between 10.5 to 11.4 and cruise between 14 and 15.

What can i do about the knocking at partial throttle? also what should i set my high and low to on my safc? I have noticed that i knock alot more on stock boost than 20psi....

OMGgggg I LOVE threads that just stop with no resolution. Thanks OP for leaving this open ended. (Sorry but that drives me nuts)

bump for a similar issue:

....20psi, low timing, 9-11deg MAX on a stock 2g weith e316g. tried a/fr from 10.7-11.5 same issue. also cant seem to do over 12deg max or the knock starts popping up exactly where i raise my timing slider in link. i can literally make it knock wherever i want. i should be able to do 15+ no problem. recently did a BLT to almost 25psi and fixed a bunch. still have issues. I have the CEL set to go off with 1deg of knock....talking with some people i have heard I can raise it to two, and the stock setting I know was 3 deg....am I just being too paranoid?

just re-gapped my plugs from .26 to .22 and same issue. tried at 15psi same issue. would like another viewpoint on this.

this is really frustrating. gotta shift at 5k how boring.

im running:
-20psi on e316g
-hafe ewg mani with 39mm pte wg
-link v3
-stock motor

i will get up a log asap.

Im right there with you man. I have a T28 and at WOT I can only run 8 degrees of timing max anything more and I get knock from 6-12 counts which was always around the 6k rpm mark. My AFRS I adjusted from 10.5-11.1 and no difference. Car just didnt want timing. I dont understand it. I made 225 (240-250 dynojet) whp on a mustang dyno on 17 psi. If I could run more timing this would have been alot better.

My mods are:
T28
560cc injectors
wally 255
full bolt ons

yup, same type stuff.

yes i forgot to say I have the wally 255, FIC 760's as well. heck i have MORE than that 16g needs to run to high heaven now. I had the timing belt jump on me last year requiring a new head. I was running 11deg while tuning but AFAIK i still couldn't get over 11deg before knock. i redid it all and still issues.

i know im gonna do a built motor down the line for the HX-35 i have in storage, but I'd REALLY like to fully tune/have it tuned with the 16g so i can get a feel for it.

pooopies. thanks for the response. I know ECMlink has a "knock, knock"n thread and some 2g guys are plagued with phantom, low pm, 5k area, and other knock stuff.

what CAS are you running? I went from the 95 CAS and swapped to a 1G Green top and was wondering if I should try a black top since its supposedly better. my RMF code is off, the phantom has been ok, but 5K it starts at .4, .7, 1.4 then if i stay into it bam 2.5deg, like 6-8 counts and I lift.

Im still on the stock 99 CAS. Try lowering the timing more on the high octane map (ECuflash). It sucks but it may have to do.

yes i know what u mean. thats what i had to do. My timing map starts level, goes up a bit then dives down to prevent knock. rediculous. im hoping its not engine issues.

This week im gonna go get some 103-ish octane race gas and try again. if that works i will have to go install a meth kit. for what we are running we shoudn't need that yet! :(

BR7ES plugs are the solution.

have been running BPR7ES plugs and the P stands for projected insulator. My car apparently hates them.

i was told to try the BR7ES gapped to .22. i have a lil knock (.4, .7) intermittent, but the 5k area is fine and i revved to 6k before it knocked ( thats where my timing was bumped up 2deg so i can see why it did that anyways) First pull i did i went to 14.1deg with the SAME TUNE!!!! it was 9deg before. amazing. awesome. im stoked man! i only did one pull on the way home from Autozone (who has them listed as a motorcycle plug, yellow box 5122) Im goin out tonite to tweak it.

I have bpr7es that i ran gapped at .28 and it didnt help any. Yours are gapped to .022? Br7es? May try them out tomorrow.

yes get rid of the BP"R"7ES asap. a tuner said try the NGK BR7ES with .022 and see what it does. i know normal is like .026 gap but i did exactly what he said first.

look at that....we ran the same plug, SAME issues.....bingo

hit up autozone tomorrow buddy! good luck and post back

Im actually running bpr6es right now. Im gna pick up a set of br6es tomorrow. I dont run the same setup or power as you so they should suit me better. I dunno though since im running 17 psi. Glad u got her fixed hopefully I do as well. Feel stronger? I think normal gap is .028.

I tried br7es after reading this thread this morning. So far I have a lot less knock below 4k Rpm's. Thanks for the tip haveblue!!!
