I get 43 counts of knock at like 3500-4500 rpms at half throttle. But if I do a launch and have it wot I dont seem to have any problems. I have a maft and after many times poping the hood I have got my trims close to 100% but the low trim seems to change when it wants to. I will get it to near 100% then all of the sudden without changing anything it will go to like 81.2% so I lean it out with my safc to like -8% on the low throttle and it might come back up then go up to like 130.4% so I richen it up to -4% still in the lo throttle at 1000rpms and it will go back down to 81.2% and I cant seem to find a happy middle. I resently had really bad studder from 4k on and couldnt really rev, so I pulled my plugs and foud I was running super rich. I just replaced my o2 sensor and knock sensor. The 43 counts of knock at low rpms at half throttle is annoying because it pulls timing, and then even at 10 psi of boost I make no power.

If my trims are near 100% why would I be running rich.

Please ask questions if you are confused on anything.

much time and money had gone into this and thanks to you guys it is starting to pay off, and I am slowly getting a fun car to drive again.

dont worry about your low settings. get them as close as possible and FORGET about it. you are rarly in your "low trim".

as far as the 43 counts of knock. have you checked your knock sensor for the goo yet?

hope that helps
david

Yup, it's time to check the knock sensor. Look for goo oozing out around the sensor, and make sure it's not loose or too tight.

Do you have noisy lifters?

I just spent the 140 bucks on a new knock sensor and o2 sensor. I also put some lucas oil stabilizer in to see if I could get rid of lifter tick because that might have been the problem. but it was no different.

Its most likely pahntom knock. Not much you can do about it unless you have an eprom with the chip coded for phantom knock elimination. I had the sam problem, but with my new eprom, its gone.

Oddly enough 43 is the maximum knock count the ecu will display. Me thinks your issues aren't with actual mechanical knock.

I losened my knock sensor and it is just past finger tight and it might have helped a little. My lifters are pretty darn loud. I read the vfaq on how to change the lifters and it seems pretty simple. But is it worth cleaning the stock lifters. I have a parts car that has like 235000 miles on it could I clean those lifters instead and install them or is that not a good idea. I have tried diferent oils and still they are loud. I wonder if this is why I have had such bad phantom knock.

I have looked into the eprom chips a little but they are kind of expensive and I dont really want to buy one to just patch the problem.

Does anybody know what lifters I could put in my car to get rid of the nasty tick, or does cleaning stock lifters help alot.

revised third gen lifters. they are about 7 dollars a piece and you need 16 of them. you can get them on ebay for like 100-130 dollars shipped...

hope that helps

Thats what I thought that is going to be expensive. I will deal with it for a while longer.:(

Race gas doesn't have to be expensive. Buy 20 litres of c10 (will probably cost you around $2.75 USD per litre) when your tank is almost empty. I recently did that and it cleared up a lot of stress I had over knock numbers.
