43 counts of knock! ... Could this be rich knock?

3rd gear pull and a lot of knock!

Mods are in my profile.
SAFC2: Throttle points: 45-80 Lo/Hi: -15 across.
14b at 12psi
550cc and 190lph fuel pump
Honeycombs removed

Now my question is why am I seeing so much knock? Is it phantom knock or rich knock? I was thinking rich knock because of the high o2 readings. I have the SAFC2 and have 12 NE-points. What should i set those to?

Went to the track last night and ran a 15.4 :notgood:. Any help would be great. I don't want to see that ugly number again.

1) Verify that your base ignition timming is 5 degrees
2) Check for Boost Leaks
3) Since your honeycombs from your mas, I would recommend richening your mixture by +5-10%, and see if u get less knock. If you still get the same amount of knock then try richening it more. IF that still doesn't work go back to -15% and lean it out some more.

2) Ran a boost leak test couldn't find any leaks
3) Should i start from zero and make my corrections +5 - 10? or start where i'm at (-15) and then move closer to zero?

Also i checked my fuel trims. Low: 139% Mid: 101% Hi: 100%

Could my Low fuel trim be the problem? How would i get it closer to 100% lean it out?
 
Try adding more fuel at your first Point....Set it around 800 and add more fuel, You should see your Low Trim go down...Then just adjust it from there..I had the same problem...dan
 
what are you using to get all that info. about fuel trims,o2 volt,knock ect... if its a datalogger. were do you connect it? to the OBD2? know any site were I can get detailed instruccions about connecting it

Us 2g people aren't cool enough to get a knock sensor on our pocketloggers. Or IDC for that matter :notgood:

You know what, i honestly don't know. Previous owner said it had a major service done at te dealer. Never thought of thinking the knock sensor was bad.

The sensor isn't part of the scheduled maint program. Unless it was found to be bad it wouldn't have been replaced. Practical experence says that they should be replaced sometime after 10 years when they start to ooze around the wire. Mine's original and starting to go bad. It's been garage kept and low miles for a 1G @ 120k, so most will need replacement much earlier than mine.

OK, I added a NE-point for 800rpm. I added +5 for fuel and the low fuel trim goes from 139% to about 103%. Its stays there till my fan turns on and it climbs back to 139%. am i doing something wrong? should i carry +5 across the board?

Man this is getting very frustrating. Hopefully the outcome of all this is a faster car :thumb:

i'm having kind of a similar problem.... lots of knock.... like 43 counts... from what people say.... my sensor is bad... try a new sensor they're 75 bucks from buschur i'm going to change mine with a used one from my other motor to see if anything is diff
 
Does the Greddy BOV operate like a 1G? Here's what happened to me:

My car would pull hard at first and then seem to fall flat and lose power. I managed a 13.90 at 100 mph last year (In 90* heat) but it wouldn't pull hard on the top end and would get ALOT of knock - sometimes 40+ counts.

One day it started to run rough at idle and when I got into the boost, at around 12 psi, I heard this loud, continuous, "screaching" noise. I'd never heard it before so at first it scared me that something major was wrong. What happened was my BOV air bypass tube came off (so I was basically venting to atmosphere) My darn BOV was leaking around 12 psi even though I could get it to boost to 18+. I must have really been overworking that 14B and heating the hell out of the air. No wonder I get a lot of knock. I carefully crushed the valve and took it for a test ride. Same thing, no difference!

There's a small hole on the under side of the 1G BOV that is exposed to upper intake pipe boost that connects to the underside of the diaphragm and enables the BOV to be "fast acting." But it also allows boost to help PUSH the diaphragm open and lift the valve. I needed something to help keep it closed until I let off the throttle. I did a little research and found a mod that eliminates that passageway to the UIP and directs it to the atmosphere where there is no pressure to lift the valve. http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_bov_mod.html I didn't install the vent tube, just left the hole.

I bolted it all back together, including the bypass tube and went for a ride. Holy Crap!! It pulled like a freight train!! And when I let off the gas I could plainly hear the SH-SH-SH-sh-sh-sh of the valve operating that I could never hear before. The difference is friggen amazing even at 16 psi. Now I'm using every pound of boost instead of leaking it. This is how it should have been running all these years! I wish that bypass tube had come off sooner! I haven't been able to datalog knock since then because I accidentally kicked the cable end out the passenger door and destroyed it dragging it around. DOH!! :coy:

Try disconnecting your bypass tube to test for BOV leakage and see if you don't have the same problem. BTW - I've leak tested my intake system a dozen times to 20+ psi in the past 5 years and this problem never showed. I don't know why.

xxREVERBxx, I would suggest an AFPR to control that fuel at idle and low throttle. At any rate, it will definitely help your tuning to be more precise. :cool:
