I just picked up another 93 awd (the most riced out 1g I have ever seen) but it was nicley modded and the price was right. It just appeared the guy had no clue what he was doing with it. So anyways the car was throwing a knock sensor code (31) so I figure bad knock sensor or pk so I just went ahead and disconnected it even though it felt brand new. So I'm limping this thing home I have my logger going and with the sensor disconnected I get either 9 counts (this is normal for the sensor being unhooked) or 295 counts! It is pulling timing so hard starting off in first is almost impossible with out reving it to 5k and slipping it like it's my first time. What I am thinking is it may be a botched safc install since he hooked it up to the knock sensor at the ecu. I don't have the car with me right know I had to park it at my friends house until I make some room at mine. I am just looking for some ideas for when I get over there to play around with it. Mods are as follows

Stage 3 kediver chip
safcII +10% across the board to be safe for now
pte 680cc injectors
aeromotive afpr@43 psi
255lph
2gmas
hrc super 20g tdo6
all less than 200 miles
rebuilt head with new timing setup
comp cams 101-102 (this is what the cam card says is this an old p/n?)
TRE trans
JDM yo 6bolt with bs removed arp head studs and cometic hg 150 psi across the board
act 2600
fidanza lw aluminum flywheel
kyb gr2 shock
eibach 1in lowering springs
megan 3in downpipe
thermal 3in catback
autometer phantom egt, boost, and blinky gauge
Some homejob fmic but a decent core
and the usual trunk full of spare parts you get when buying these things

The guy provided reciepts for almost everthing and for $1700 I couldn't let it go. I't should make for a decent car once this is resolved and de-riced. The body/interior are clean other than the ridiculous vinyl here is a couple of pics on the way home for amusement purposes.

PS I removed the supra wing before even thinking of driving it

There was no change after resetting the ecu with it plugged in or unplugged I have never heard of 295 counts usually 50 at most. I am pretty sure 9 counts is default with it unplugged.

Sounds like a steal for $1700. I believe the max knock count for the ecu is 49, so not sure why its posting 295. I would assume with the knock sensor unplugged it would run on the "octane" map with lower timing. There could definitely be some botched wiring with the gauges, safc, etc.

295 knock counts is impossible.
KnockSum is stored as 1 byte so the highest value would be 255(0xFF).

I'm pretty sure the ECU limits max counts to 43.

What Logger are you using?

I'ts mmcd on a m100 I did'nt actually get a log it just flashes between 9 0 and 295.

I don't want to call this "resolved" just yet but this is what I found today....

Your car still runs with those burnt drivers? I've also seen flashes of high knock counts like that with my old car. I knew it wasn't right. I just figured the logger program was acting up.

That's a good deal on the car though.

Steve was amazed my car even ran when i sent him my last ecu for a socket. It needed a lot of work. The car ran good but occasionally had some symptoms you mentioned with huge lack of power

Those two where actually touching and stuck together and I pulled them apart.

I knew of the issues when I bought it thats why I got it so cheap he just thought it needed a good "tune" but I knew otherwise. Plus he gave me 6k in reciepts :D and it's all legit.

Just for record keeping sake it was a bad knock sensor duh! :ohdamn: I was clearly over looking the obvious because things just usually are'nt that easy for me with these cars.
The burnt drivers on the ecu were caused by a faulty ISC. She is now running tip top other than the having the Isc unplugged for now. Dropped her off at the detail shop for de-ricing yesterday :thumb:

Just an FYI advance auto has oem knock sensors under the brand BMD for $55 and they had it next day.

Sweet job, i was hoping you might say you were going to remove all of those graphics. Good find on that car

It came out surprisingly well... now if I could just get the stink out of it :barf:
