so i have a 98 mistu galant with the 2.4 4g64 i just swapped to a dohc. i am using a 1g head and 1g cas. during the swap i had to wire in a 98 eclipse ecu. the car starts and idles but i am having a problem. under boost my timing is dropping down to 5-10 degrees of timing and my wideband is pegging rich 10.00 and starts flashing. i try to adjust the cas and it does the same thing so what would cause this. the only things i can think of either im getting insane amounts of knock at 8 psi or something else is wrong. i used the stock 4g63 timing gears and i had to advance each gear half a tooth when i first timed it i thought i may have timed it wrong so i timed it again and it does the same thing. i did read somewhere that im suppose to unplug my crank sensor because the cas will give the ecu a simulated crank signal but my car wont start with out it plugged it. i have the cas wire running to pin 88 PLEASE HELP>

Wow that was hard to read.

First you need to wire up your cas like this.

Then you just plug the sensor in to the harness. But you still need to figure out how to set the timing at the CAS. Do you have timing marks on your lower front cover and crank pulley? If you do then you can use a timing light, if not use a logger. You also need to find out if there is a "timing adjustment" pin on your ecu. On the 95 DSM there is a pin you can ground and it stops the ECU from adjusting the timing while you set the base timing. So if you have that pin, ground it. If not then you'll just have to guess...use the logger and try to get the base timing as close as possible..

Also 10:1 AFR is normal at WOT for this ECU.

Your mechanical timing is probably ok, I did mine the same way and it runs great.

What is your actual problem? Does the timing never advance? What does the car run like?

the cars runs like crap i think i may have figured it out i was actually retarding the timing bye setting the exhaust a half a tooth above the intake. i need to set the intake a half a tooth above the exhaust to advance timing i also need to connect the yellow wire from my cas to the crank sensor wire. so basically my ecu will get a simulated crank signal from the cas.

so i have everything wired correctly and it runs best with the cas all the way to the left so im thinking my timing is advanced now, do i have to swap plug wires around or is the 98 ecu differnt causing my problems.

which cams are you running, i have a 4g64 7 bolt with 2g head and 1g cas and i cant get the timing right. I used the 4g64 cam gears like i was supposed to and timed it all properly but it runs like crap!

im using the stock 4g63 cam gears you cant use the 4g64 gears. If you use the 4g63 cams gears the exhaust tooth has to be a half a tooth above the intake and it will be fine i got my car running good that way.

^There are dohc gears for a 94 galant. Which used a 2g head. So those would be the right gears. Although I am using the 4g63 gears+belt with the exhaust one half tooth above the intake.

Are you using the right markings? I remember seeing that they were 4g63 gears with different markings on the other side.
