ok so i have a 1990 Talon TSi AWD. i've done motor swaps on other cars like my Porsche 944 from a 2.5 to a 3.0 that "supposedly" bolted right in. I have a 4g63 along with the wiring harness and computer out of an evo 8 along with the trans clutch axles spindles and brakes. because both motors are the 4g63 is it safe to asume that the motor will bolt directly in with some minor modifications (possible clearance problems due to extent of wiring other emission regulated parts ect) and not need to change motor mounts or reposition them? does the trans from the evo 8 carry the same dimensions as the factory talon trans? if anyone has done a similar swap what other problems did you come across. if the trans out of the evo works can i use talon axles so i dont have to change the wheel base and suspension geometry of the car. i'm not so much looking for someone to help put it in or tell me how as much so as i'm looking to find out what unexpected things come up with a swap like this.

DEVOTUNING, Home of the world's fastest EVO is Devo's website, they did my clutch (didn't feel safe doing it myself when i was 16). From my memory, they had about 4 1g's in their lot as project cars, and a couple Evo's but that was a couple years ago. If your serious about this, I'd recommend sending them an email or giving them a call about it, as I'm almost certain they've looked at doing this, that's assuming they didn't already and would have all the parts there on a shelf to look at and measure for you. :talon:

From what I understand the short block is the same for the evo 8/9 engines, just turned 180 degrees. I believe you should be able to take the short block and turn it 180 degrees and bolt your 2g head/tranny to it.

This seems to be the case I've ran into with the differences between the 7g and 8g Galant 4g64

Thank you for bringing that up. As I pointed in post #18 in this thread about Devo tuning.

Same motor...sort of pointless. Only cool factor with this is that youll have pride in your work since you did it yourself, thats about it. This really sounds like Honda swapping to me....switching out a B18C1 to a TypeR B18 to gain what... 20 hp and 1ftlb? pointless. Find a blown up evo 8 and put the motor into that..

IMO i think it would be a waste but each has there own. For the time and money spent just to have nothing but a newer version of a 4g63 i say spend the money on a built 6 bolt, trans, turbo, and of course repairs.

I think it would be a nice swap if the price wasn't too high since the motors are built up a bit. Do the 8's and 9's have the timing chains like the new one?

For the money it would take to swap an evo 8 motor into your car you could build your motor to completely embarrass an EVO. So unless your rich and have gobs of money to blow for no reason and all you want a rare swap (so rare it's probably never been done) build your motor.

You're going to pay all that money, and labor just to have a 4g63 on the other side of the engine bay? Why??? Just to be able to use the Evo8/9 Head, Intake, Exhaust manifolds?

Pretty pointless to me.

I think that 3g with the evo motor only had the evo head on it. The 4 cyl 4g64 in those are turned like evo engines. That take everything from an evo except the bottom end and swap it over from what i have seen and heard.

You can take the evo engine and put it into any automobile with a 4g64 that sits on the passenger side, not just the block, not just the head, both!

You can use the block alone in any 4g63/4g64 car being you use the right gene that matches your mounts.
