i just recently put turbo on my 98 rs eclipse and everything seems to be running fine other than my idle. when i start it up it idles at about 2000 rpm and slowly goes up to 4000 rpm.
i appreciate any help.

i didnt have time to fill out my profile when i made the membership but ill get to that later tonight . im using an 8:1 fmu and 270cc injectors as of now but in a few days i am going to order an afc.

my car idle fine until i had to unplug the battery and ever since then it idles high, whether or not the battery had anything to do with it.

it sounds to me like a huge vacume leak. have you worked/cleaned the engine. you might have disconected a vacume line. what you can do it's start the car and listen for a "hissing" kind of noise. the possible places i think would be egr/ tube the vacume line to bov, fmu, WG. also if a check engine light on? well hope this helps a little

a check engine light is on but i believe it is becuase i dont have an o2 sensor in my downpipe yet. im going to check for the vacume leak and if i dont find anything with that im going to clean my iac to see if that helps any. thanks for the quick reply

Put your o2 sensor on.

Research into fuel systems for the 420a because it seems like you don't really know what you are doing yet.

My car is a non turbo 99 eclipse and it idles at 2,000 when i fire it up and then works its way up to 4,00pretty quickly and i just put a new motor in it but reused the intake gasket when i used my intake manifold on the new motor and im hoping its just bc i didnt get a new intake gasket and just reused the old one. anyone have an idea ### let me know

your throttle cable might be to short or your idle motor might be blown

Never re use factory gaskets. There cheap and if there not in near perfect condition itd pretty likely they will leak. A small vacuum leak will only cause the rpm to change slightly, a bad gasket from the throttle body gasket to your intake manifold gasket will cause high rpm because excessive air is leaking in that is unaccounted for. Go get new gaskets from your local automotive store and I bet it will fix the problem.

Well i put a new intake gasket on the car and it still idles at start up at 3,000and revs at that till i touch the gas than it will drop to 2,500 than slowly get back up to 4,000 until i tap the gas than it will drop back down to 2,500. throttle cable is good.

So what mods do you have if any, is this all new, seems problem occured when you added your turbo, check lines, mbc, what all did you add to your setup,? Turbo, intercooler, piping, maybe adjust your throttle cable, throttle body leaking, gaskets leaking all relating to your set up.

My car does not have a turbo, its a stock 99eclipse without a turbo. i have no mods dun at all beside my head and exhaust. Im going to check the IAC now and see if it helps anything.

hey sorry just saw the nt, i forget and things happen simple mistake but, check out the iac.

Oh it says 420a turbo high idle in your thread?

Well i checked the IAC and its fine and the car still revs from 2,000 too 4,000quit iradically when its at a stop or in nuetral.Im really afaind its gonna burn out my clutch...

Did you do this?
check for leaks.

Simple to do. Just do a BLT (boost leak test - yes I know you're not turbo) via the throttle body and you will be able to hear/feel the leaks (you can also use soapy water at any questionable joint). To make a tester, simply search on this site and you will find a DYI on how to make a cheap tester.

Also be sure that you idle air channel of the throttle body is clean and clear. Make sure that the pintle on your TPS is also clean.

But I'd bet there is a vac leak somewhere.

I put in a new TPS and it didnt help at all. I'm gonna do a boost leak test and see what i come up with.
