420a spun bearing???

:confused: Ok, My car is in the shop right now and I am anxiously awaiting the verdict on the bottom ends condition. My question is, could I have spun a bearing due to my oil being 1/2 a quart low and about 4,000 miles old?? before you condemn me for this, realzie that I bought the car in this condtion and have not driven it since the purchase :cry: The engine only has 5,000 miles since the rebuild and I do not see how I could have spun a rod bearing?? Please help me out:thumb: :dsm:
 
Could have been a shady rebuild. 1/2 quart low and 4k miles won't spin a rod bearing. I am gonna say that whoever rebuilt it didn't plastigage the bearings and there was to much clearence. Or a main cap was inproperly torqued. Or they didn't break the motor in right. Could be a number of things.
 
So my rod bearing might not even be spun?? Tomorrow I will find out for sure, I am just trying to eliminate the unlikelyness of a spun bearing in my newly rebuilt engine. :dsm:
 
First off, 1/2 qt low on oil and 4k miles wont cause the bearing to spin. That is an open statement with many conditions but generally, it is true. But the quality of the engine is based on the tecnique and person who rebuilt it. I have seen people pull an engine down and just install rings and bearings without checking anything. Usually, those "rebuilds" dont last as long as expected. Other times, even though everything was checket and clearences set, excessive assembly lube had been used and the break in oil had not been changed. This in turn clogs the oil filter and then the only route for the oil to take is the filter bypass. Then in this case, the remainder of the sediment that didnt get filtered begins to take its toll on the bearings.

I would suggest having the machine shop open then oil filter and examine it for assembly lube and/or bearing particles. This will tell them or you a lot about how the engine was built ans broken in.
