Well I guess I'm doing an engine rebuild. I bought this car about a month ago for 400 bucks, it didn’t run but it turned out it was just out of gas. I drove it about a week and other than needing a tune it ran perfect. While doing my timing belt and basic maintenance I decided to drop the oil pan due to it leaking. I found some metal shavings so after some digging this is what I found.

I really didn’t want to do a complete overhaul yet but what can you do. For what I paid for the car I guess I really can’t complain. My goal is 400HP at some point, so I'm just going to go with stock internals and do the 2G piston upgrade and call it good. At least thats what I'm thinking now LOL. From my understanding stock internals should handle that just fine. This car is really just something to do when I’m bored and want to get away from the girlfriend for a few hours. Anyhow my question is, is it easier to pull the tranny with the engine or leave it in the car? At this point I’m pretty much down to the block and crank so it’s not like I have a ton of stuff to pull off to get it out of the car. I’ll post some pics as I’m going thru the rebuild process :hellyeah:

Do it like two girls,
For your goal you can do that on a stock rebuild, hell that's my daily if I had the fuel system to support it right now ;) If it were up to me, I would change the upgrade paths because fuel cut blows.
I assume since you pulled the bearing you have the tools and knowledge to at least assemble it yourself, which saves a TON of cash.
Go stock rods and 2g pistons/replacement or whatever while its out, as well as fixing up an AN fitting for the oil pan for the future if your plans include it.

Actually crank is still in the car, I kinda figured it was a spun bearing when I seen the metal in the pan so I was just pulling bearing caps till I found the culprit! And yes I have done several engine re-builds they have just always been v8's so yep Im going to be doing everything myself execpt the machine shop work!
 
I put forged pistons, rods, and bearings in my 2g with the engine still in the car. It may save you a headache, unless you got damage to the crankshaft.

Yeah I have heard of people doing that but like I said I'm in no hurry to get this thing back on the road so I'm just going to pull it. I can clean up the engine compartment and paint the block and make everything look nice.
 
That sucks. But, for 400 bucks I still think you got a good deal.
