Okay so I did a high rev burnout and a couple days later my car was knocking! I don't know if its the valves or bearings? I'm going to to drain the oil in the morning to see if there's any metal flakes, if there is can I check the bearings without taking out the engine? If there isn't any flakes does that mean its valves? Any and all suggestions help! Thanks

yes there is an easy check and will tell you if its a rod bearing. If it sounds like the BB guns from a carnival your probably spun a bearing.Or do the check below.

But to make sure you'll want to remove one spark plug wire one at a time, lay it on your valve cover and start the car. Go cyl. 1 thru 4 keeping the other 3 still plugged in and tunring off car between switching and when your noise goes anyway you'll know if you spun a bearing and which one cause that cyl. will be quieter.

A compression check will be your next step. A compression tester is the easiest way to tell if the motor is still good with it in the car and together.

You should get numbers looking close to each other for it to be correct across the board. If you see lower compression and wanna rule out rings a drop of oil in your spark plug hole will raise it a bit but if you get a higher number its your rings. You get a really low number you know its valves or melted or broken something. Does your motor feel sluggish?

if you pull the main girdle you will find out if its a spun bearing same as if you pull the rod caps. There is no need for plastigauge.

Hmmm...is his car an 2G NT? Thus, he would have the NEON 420A motor. Thus might have a total different block setup than the 4G63 motor..

..but does sound like he popped a rod bearing...

Yeah, not just a girdle on the 420a that is a whole big bedplate. You can drop the exhaust and oil pan then grab the rods and wiggle them hard. Not across the journal from crank pully to trans but from front of car to back direction. If it's bad enough to knock it will have play. BTW the 420a is not notorious for valve and lifter noise like the 4g, it is the bottom end that is weak on those.

How noticeable is the play may I ask?

Quite noticeable .. you move that rod to the front of the car to the back with the block still in the car and if you hear metal to metal contact with a decent amount of play, that main is spun with the crank damaged as well.

Okay so I took the valve cover off to see if it was a stuck rocker arm and it was! I also did an oil change and didn't find any metal flakes, so when I started it the knock went away. But its still sluggish when I drive it?! Wtf

that happened to me too when I had my 420a, there would be a knock and it would go away sometimes... I really thought it was a spun bearing or something else but i guess it was just the Knock sensor going bad:banghead:

And I say that because I sold the motor to a guy for cheap cause I really thought it had spun bearing but he told me as soon as he changed the knock sensor the sound went away. :)

I had a flywheel come loose on me and it knocked like crazy! Might not be your problem, but worth checking out.

Where's the knock sensor located? And I also seen that my o2 sensor is broke off could that make it sluggish or what's up?

Knock sensor is behind the block.... yeah u defenetly need an O2 sensor if its broken. And yes that is probably why your car is running like crap or sluggish however you want to call it. You need that O2 sensor

If you want to really free up stuck rocker arms, is to spray it down with good ol' WD-40 and let it soak in overnight. Then then next day, spray it down again then crank it over after you disconnect the MPI so the thing wont catch while you crank.

WD-40 .. man's best friend at times..
