Hey, I'm seeing the K&N oil filter for the 420a N/A should be the hp-2004, orileys says this is the number I need.

Now when I'm ordering it on Amazon it's saying it won't fit, but the black SO-2004 does say it fits but is showing 3/4in threads vs the hp-2004 which says it has 1in threads.

To clarify this for me, will the HP-2004 white filter with hex on bottom for a wrench fit my stock 420a engine in my 97 Eclipse GS? I tried searching all over but I can't find filter numbers people are using.

Lastly, is the K&N filter the best for the 420a like I have been reading or do you guys think there is a better one for this motor? I'm sorry if they are stupid questions, I'm just confused about what I need to get.
Thank You in advance!!!

Well it's a 420a. I wouldn't be worried about power. Just find whatever replacement is at any auto parts store or Walmart whatever is cheapest and run it.

I'm not sure you get what I was asking. I'm not worried about power, it's a oil filter! I'm just needing, trying to confirm the K&N oil filter number that fits a 420a.

Anyone who has or uses a K&N oil filter on their 420a, what's the filter model number you use that fits.

Edit: I just picked the car up a few months ago from the original owner and is completely stock, garaged since day 1, extremely well maintained and cared for by original owner who is in his 80's. I just want to use the best parts I can on this one. I honestly have yet to even floor the car and it hasn't even seen much over 4k rpm since I've had it. I want to keep maintained as good as i can and use good parts.

It looks like people like the K&N oil filter and it has the easy hex on the bottom for a wrench.

Looks like #2004 fits the 420a per K&N's website. Having said that, there's really nothing special about K&N oil filters. If you want the "best," get one designed for synthetic oil that has a silicone anti drain back valve.

What filter would you recommend?

I ran multiple HP-2004 for a few years. So I can confirm that it fits. If the S0-2004 has a different thread size, then it isn't going to fit. There's really nothing special about the K&N oil filters. I used them because they were always readily available at Walmart, but if you can get something else name brand for cheaper, go for it.
