So today I took my valve cover off, revealing some nasty look.in cams and such (I will post pictures in my gallery my phone won'tet me post on here) and realized I really need new cams. I have looked around on other forums and crower stage 2 cams have seemed to be a popular item. The whole engine needs to be rebuilt (or swapped with 4g63) but if I decide to get new cams, are there other things that absolutely need to ne changed with it?

First what do you want to do a 6 bolt swap or keep it a 420a. If it stays 420a i would replace the cams, but whats wrong with the cams are they broken? Describe how they look.

You realize that there is no 6 bolt swap for a 420a car right, unless you consider many hours of body structure work a swap.

I'm not sure what they are called, but on the cams the little nub things that stick out from the actual shaft( I believe there is 8 on each cam) are extremely worn, I can see the metal wear on the sides on them. I recently posted.pictures so they should be in my gallery and there is close ups so you can see what km talking about. For now I'm looking to keep the same engine. But it has a lot wrong with it (250+ miles, rear main seal is out)

From looking at the pictures, I would say the camshaft lobes have normal wear on them. Those are the "nubs" you are referring too. They provide the intake and exhaust duration for the engine.

I would leave them alone. At 250k miles there's no point in putting in new cams. The rear main seal would be my first "To-Do".

Always maintenance first, modification later.

Thanks fellers, the seal is only like 3 or 4 bucks I think but its my everyday car and I've never replaced one before so I'm not sure how long it would take. I just need to sell the thing and get a GSX

I agree, those cams look fine. You would be wasting money to change those out. The rear main seal is going to be bit of a pain, you will have to either drop the transmission, or remove the engine.

What is so nasty about it? Unless you are taking micrometer readings and have some definitive runout/wear to measure and report, there is nothing objective about your assumptions. Save your money.
