400hp goal. need idea for turbo

Im looking to achieve around 400hp in my 2g eclipse gst. I wanted to know what would be the best turbo to get to help me achieve these goals. and on pump gas

Fp race manifold, and a pte 50 trim will get you that hp with no problem, and its a very cheep combo compaired to other setups.

16g, 272 cams, dsmchipps, 1000cc+ injectors E85, BFMI, Intake, 1g tb, and driver mod! Im pretty sure you can pull 400 off that

arp head studs
and some more stuff wouldnt hurt

but i bet you could hit 400whp with a really good tune and playing with timing

He's talking 400whp with pump gas folks. Not pump ethanol, not racegas. Either he needs to invest in a water/meth kit with a 16g and likely a smim and/or stroker to get flow up at lower boost. Or he needs a bigger turbo. Not many have seen the light of 400whp with a 16g with pumpgas with out any of a smim, stroke increase, higher compression, race fuel, or ethanol.

You'll be happier with a cam upgrade for any choice.

400 to front wheels? e316g hands down. If you run it efficiently, you can get there with ethanol or race gas. SMIM is nice, but I've seen plenty of DSM's in 9s making over 700whp, that still use stock intake manifold.
Cams? Yes. Probably 272s with stock springs/retainers.
SMIM? No. Stock one is MORE than enough for 400hp. You won't be flowing even close to the number that would benefit SMIM.

I'll agree that 400 WHP is achievable with bolt-ons and a factory intake manifold. I made 403 WHP on a factory 7-bolt longblock (including cams and IM) with a T3 50-trim. But, I had to run 27 psi and use race gas to allow for a more aggressive tune. Had I had better cams and a SMIM to evenly compliment the rest of my modifications, I easily could have made that same power with a slight de-tune and running on pump gas.

My point is that just because something is doable, doesn't make it the most wise of choices. You say a DSM can make 700 WHP on a factory intake manifold, but I sit and wonder how much more it could make if it were running a proper manifold for the set-up. The OP needs something to hit his HP goals on pump gas (not race gas or E85), so it's not going to be the smartest decision to start with a tiny compressor, and build around restrictive stock parts - whether its physically possible or not.

I run pretty high idc's on my 1000cc injectors, evo3, e85 setup.

Just to add some info, a guy here made 320whp on his 16g max boost on e85. He added a SMIM and 264 cams. The car dynoed the exact same HP and TQ on the same dyno, motor, tune. I think SMIM's are a waste of money unless its the last upgrade you need to do to make that power.

To add I made 327whp at 30psi on a 16g and e85. That was on a hearbreaker dyno but still its not easy to make 400whp on a 16g unless you are a dynojet queen. I hit 64% IDC's on my 1200's. My brother has a 16g and he hits 79% on his 1000cc's.

384 w.h.p. (AMS Dynojet) on the EVO3 16g with 117 octane mixed 50/50 with 93 octane. It's certainly over 400 w.h.p. now with the changes I made since the last dyno pull based on what DSMLink was showing. Notables are the FP exhaust manifold, EVO3 intake manifold, ebay "injent" style compressor inlet pipe, "Jus" holset 20 psi internal wastegate actuator. On pump gas, very risky but technically possible, if you don't mind toasting a motor in the attempt

On an EVO 9, 400 w.h.p. is very very possible given the improved 10.5 cm^2 turbine housing. My neighbor is close and he runs 28 psi on pump gas with very low ignition timing and conservative A/F's. I shake my head but his knock counts are extremely low.

Put an hx35 on it, almost bulletproof with the right oiling methods and makes great horsepower. Will out perform almost any 50 trim for less money. Your block should be fine unless you are pushing huge boost. Definately stud the heads with some arp's though

Originally yes, however the easiest way is to buy yourself a good manifold like the FP race manifold and buy the .55 A/R Bullseye Performance exhaust housing and that way you can get it setup for external gate and get a o2 housing setup for the external wastegate

Back in the day it was known as the pump gas king. Now there are all sorts of hybrid turbos which made them take a hit in "popularity". Yes you can handle it as long as your around 400-450 hp with a GOOD tune. I would suggest against getting the evo 3 16g if you want 400 hp. Yes its possible, but it takes some corn juice and an excellent tuner to get that kind of power out of that turbo. Think about all the people that have 16g's. Now think about all the people that have gone over 400 hp with it. It's a handful but compared to the amount of people that own an evo3 16g, there really arn't that many that have done it.

I am in the same boat....Im expecting to eventually spend around 900-1200 for a turbo, Lag being my only concern. I would suggest the FP Green because you wouldnt need to push the turbo to its max like the E16G to get to 400 whp but the Green is kinda out dated ive heard and its like $1300 new

Anyone know which turbo FP has out now that spools quick and is a direct bolt on for a 2g similar to the green? I know they are pushing BB turbos like mad now.

he also said e85 there, so no, 1000cc injectors would be fine for that. plus allows room for expansion (hx35 or something massive that flows around 60lb/min) on e85

Only think is the hx35 is more of a 400+ horsepower turbo with quick spool time, where as the hx40 is more for a 500+ range with a little slower spool

go for fp red thats your best bet ive seen evo 3 do it but it was on ethonal and maxed out youll be pushing it to achive that on pump!

I would recommend against the fp red. It's spool up time is not that great, and quite frankly it's way overkill for what you need. It's also pricey for what your getting now a days. If your gonna spend that much on a turbo, you could get way more street ability with another turbo for that price tag. If you want 400 easy on pump and on the cheap, I'm telling you to get the 50 trim.

I agree that there are much better options than the FP red now. The red spools like a dog and is overpriced. I could think of a dozen better performing and cheaper options to reach 400 WHP.

Have you started to sway in anyway towards a specific yet??? I am getting my car tuned on tuesday, getting excited to see what it makes. Holset He351cw at around 25psi.

All you need is a 255lph pump, afpr, 60-1, 880's, fmic, decent cams nothing too fancy or radical ..web street cams will do, ngk 7's and act 2600, a lightened flywheel + Ecu( eprom/standalone) with a good tune.
