3D Printed Car Parts

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

More and more people are toying with 3D printing for car parts. If you've printed any parts for your car, please post some articles in this section describing how you did it. Whether if was for your DSM or not. With more and more OEM DSM parts becoming obsolete (no longer produced) 3D printing will become a popular option in this community.

Here are some resources I found to give people more info on getting started with 3D printing car parts.

I spent wayyyy too much time trying to replicate the complete geometry of the 1G Talon / Laser cover. I know it’s not perfect (nominal thickness in the center section is pretty thin) but it’s a decent overall representation.

And, certainly, I’m overdoing it but it was an interesting challenge. 👍

That's great. I had some work to do and I didnt made any progress with the letters. If you can share a .stp file, it would be amazing. I'll put mine asap.

I've played around today and tried copying the top door vent for 2G's. I printed a rough idea of how they would look like and they turned out great! Some minor modifications must be done for a better fit

Would you be willing to share the file for this one?

Small project I've been working on lately. Just put it on the printer, hopefully it works. Need to get a scanner to really start rolling on car parts.

The dial I could do up real fast on our laser out of sheet stock, probably 3 minutes to cut and etch that.

Working on doing some speaker wiring. Depinned the factory amp to salvage it's plug and made a housing for it so I can reuse some of the factory wiring for tweeters.

More fun with the printer.

Made a panel that bolts to the factory mounts for the speakers for my junction boxes for both constant and switched power and then a mount for my ground block off the battery.

I can't stand drilling holes in my car so everything needs to be mounted to factory mounting points/run through factory grommets etc.

Finally got back around to this side project. I need to pull one corner out by about 5mm, otherwise it fits great! 2.5" outlet to match the insert for the SMIC hole by the airbox. Will add a tab to assist keeping it in place, and probably thin doublesided tape. This was low res/no supports for sake of time and material.

My 1G Eclipse factory steering wheel had the Eagle sticker on it when I bought it. I found a couple wheels at the shootout but none of them had the Mitsu logo.

So when my friend picked up his first printer, he was playing around and showing me stuff he had printed.
So I thought, "Hey!" But he didn't have any black spools, so he printed the diamonds on a white base. We printed a few of them with small dimensional differences to get the best fitment.

It did look nice, but it didn't match the wheel, dash, etc. Next day he went to microcenter and picked up the black. Voila!

I plan to sand and polish one for a smoother finish, but in all it looks great. I just superglued it on, and it has sat tight since last October, through the winter and this summer.

Do it!

Would love to see the parts for the 2g windows that fixes the rattle. Many people have them missing and you could design them a little thicker which would skip the need for squeezing the metal bracket in.
That's a great ideea! I will try to make them as soon as I get to my car.

Printed in PLA for now, will need to get a new roll of ABS. Tab broke off so its tin-duct taped on for now.. 2.5" ducting.

Ive got a couple rolls of ABS & PLA-CF if you're willing to share the file. I want to create one that mounts to the SMIC too...but this is a great start!!

How do you attach it to the bumper? Is it just using the tape? Have you thought about putting some tabs on it that will allow you to put a small bolt through?

Haha definitely not, but I live in San Diego, so chances of it seeing rain are slim as well!

I actually did have it with a tab that aligned with a hole in the plastic duct, but it broke off my ABS version. I must have the settings off or its an old dried out roll because it was WAY more brittle and delicate than the PLA version. I want to do a few more tweaks and then I'll figure out what I want to do with the file.
