ok so i am looking to do the punishment racing 35r turbo kit and i have all the supporting mods( 1000cc injectors, 255 fuel pump, areomotive fpr, ets race core, gm maf, dsmlink.) i was talking to lucas english from english racing and we were thinking a good route would be to throw the turbo kit on first because i am doing pump gas and on about 22 pounds or so i will be at low 400whp range:thumb:. Lucas believes that the motor will last for a while then when it goes i can build it. Now my question is has anyone else done the 35r kit on a stock motor with supporting mods and how long did the motor last? i did search and didn't find anything of use. I am later going to be switching to E85 and be around 600whp :D so the motor being built is in the future but i am just wondering how long the motor last. I know every car is different so there isn't like a set amount of time i am just wondering on your experiance? Thanks oh and yes i do already have a wideband

Ask Lucas about the 1g he built almost 4 years ago on stock internals.

Needless to say I have been running over 400awhp for over a year and this motor has seen some abuse.

Trust in what Lucas tells you.

ya i know i do have all the trust in the world in him he just never gave me a time frame on how long the motor can handle that kind of borderline horsepower. are you running stock tranny other then a clutch?

How long it will last all depends on how healthy the motor is now, and what your driving habits are.

He built the tranny last summer and I put it in over this winter. It is up and running with less than 500 miles on it currently. My stock transmission lasted for 250k. I only redid it because I had the money at the time and I had a AEM clutch go bad. One word of advice for you is do not go with a aem clutch. I have had two of them and both had problems. I highly recommend a quarter master even though it is expensive.

As far as my motor goes, I was one of the very first motors Lucas built and the goal at the time was to see 300awhp. That came very fast and I wanted more. I am running the punishment manifold that you are looking at but I went with a BW turbo. Last time I was on the rollers we made 430's at around 26psi on pump/meth. I have switched over to e85 and last time Lucas and I took the car out we got a little better tune on it and should be somewhere over 450awhp. Im not gonna lie to you the motor's life will depend on alot of things including you. Heck mine has lasted through a dyno pull where the oil filter blew the ring out and we filled it back up and I drove it home from seattle and it is still running knock free currently. This summer I will push it and see how long it lasts over 500awhp.

ya i know i am a very.... gentle driver i guess i only get on it on the track. And as of right now i have the act2600 and so that clutch should be good for a while is only has like 5k on it. the car has 135k miles on it. i am just looking to get like 6 months or so out of it then i will have the money to do the beefy motor and tranny and convert to e85.

Did you purchase the clutch new or used?

The stock tranny can handle alot and is rather strong the problem with them is getting them to shift properly.

Good luck getting it to shift smoothly at 8k. Most clutches including my old act will drag once you get them over about 7k. I know I am biased but we built my tranny and installed a brand new 2600 6-puck and it would not allow me to shift over 7k. Once the rev's would drop it would shift fine. Lucas ended up having to tear the tranny back apart and redo all the syncro's due to grinding at high rev. Ever since that I will never go back with a regular clutch. I can shift so smoothly right now at 8.5k that it is unbelievable.

Best of luck to you. I'm off to bed for the night

well my trani went out over the weekend so i picked up jeff bushes new 5spd only used to dyno on then he switched to auto so trani is not an issue anymore it was good on very close to a thousand horse car so i think it will be able to handle four something. It is fully rebuilt double syncroed welded center diff and i also picked up a quarter master twin disk so my trani is pretty much set and the 35r should be on within the next month or so so i guess i just have to hope my motor can hold on for like six months thats all i need then i don't care if it goes.

Nice!!! with that tranny and the act 2600 you should be good.

If the motors in good shape, 400 awhp defently shouldn't be an issue assuming you know how to or someone will be tuning it properly. I know guys that have run 10's in their basically full weight 1g's on stock bottom ends, which puts them at abit more then 400 hp ;) . I think generally most tend to say 450-500whp is fairly reliable on a good condition 6 bolt & around 400whp on the 7 bolt. I know a good number (myself included) that have pushed more then these numbers without any issues.

Been running 400+, 500+, and 600+ whp on stock 6 bolts for years (and yes I have the dyno sheets to prove it). Proper maintenance and proper tuning is key. If the crank/bearings/rings are in good shape, then let it rip!

i actually picked up a quatermaster twin disk with the tranny deal so the act 2600 is going to be gone. that clutch isn't going to want to shift at around 8500 so i picked up the twin disk just as a precaution

Very smart decision. Once you get things up and running do you mind sending me a log? I was originally going to go with the 35r but went a different route and I would like to see its spool characteristics on your car. If you could get a log with a 2-3,3-4 shift, it would be appreciated.

ya i am pretty stoked i get the car back prob tomorrow or friday and then it just waiting the month or a little more to get the turbo other then that i am set. and lucas english is going to be tuning it. i can get a pretty good base tune going, just he knows what he is doing and has done many of these setups. and i would be happy to send you a log after it is going.

and thanks whiteflash got to love your sarcasm all the time. ha ha good input

how helping break in the clutch this weekend by mashing on it?

oh and does anyone else have any other input on if i am set supporting mod wise? i think i covered everything? just double checking

Yeah I'll show you how to launch it, but you know that twin disk is gonna be a bi*** to daily drive. But I guess you'll have a really strong left leg after awhile, that's a plus. haha

ya i know but i will get used to it. i thought my leg was going to fall of the first day i had the 2600 and now it feels soft so it won't be to bad. and once i get over the fact that my trany is going to chatter everytime i touch the clutch i will be fine it will be worth being able to do whatever i want to it
