im currently running a 35r with .68 exhaust 4 bolt and i was wondering if i switched to the garrett T04Z with a .82 would the spooling be that much different? im trying to make more power but i also dont want to lose to much spool because its a street car. i want to know id the spooling difference is big and if the to4z is streetable. Thanks

Look into FPs HTA compressor housing turbos. On a 2.0 they spool the 35rHTA @ 4500RPMS and they told me the 37HTA spools around 500 more RPMS so around 5000RPMS for a 700HP turbo. Oh a 37R is a T4z Turbo thats what FP says the real name for a 37R is. Im running a turbo just one step down from a 35R and if I keep my car Im getting the 37RHTA

thanks bro im still having troubles deciding..ive talked to alot of people im running aem ems with a bradbrooks tune...ive seen 3582r's in the 600 hundreds and thats all I need for a street car...I may still get the 37r...I havent really seen a daily driver with a 37r. If any of you guys have please send me a link. Thanks

My friend has an evoIX. It had a 35r on it that was pushing 39psi dropping to 32psi by redline. This is on a 2.3l engine. On race gas his car dynoed 647whp on Buschur's dyno. He put a t67 (what you call a 37r) on it since the 35r couldn't keep up. He then made 624whp on 30psi with race gas. So, he made 23whp less with 9psi less. The t67 is easier on the engine since it requires less psi to make the power but it spools much later.

My other friend has a t67 on his 2.0l 1g. I will pm him to see if he will chime in with what he thinks of the t67.

I run a t67 p-trim in a .82 housing.. Spool time is not THAT bad. I daily/street drive it every day. But if you're not revvin to at least 8800, dont even bother. I dont know what a 35r is like, but I like the t67 and the power it makes. Its not hard to launch, and its good on a roll. Dont expect to race torquey v8's on a 2nd gear roll to 60mph and win. Get anyone on the highway, and they will be crying for sure. I see full boost around 6300rpms or so. Boost between gears is good too.

In my experiance a t67 spools much later than a 35r. I will never buy a t67.

This is a very biased statement. Of coarse the gt series turbo will spool faster but there is a huge price difference. You can get a t67 new for around $900 if you shop right. I dont think you could find a new 35r for that price. I know someone that was running a high reve 2.0L and was seeing 30psi by 5000rpms but took awhile after that to get 35psi. He upgraded too 280 cams and I havnt talked to him about how it helped the spool. Anyways for the price the t67 is a very potent turbo.

Thats so true about this turbo, its a little laggy through 1st since you dont see much boost. My 16g would eat him up through 1st and some of second, but after that say good bye.

Drew, have you gotten a chance to see what the car runs with the t67? I know you were thinking about going to ESTA for the previous test and tune.

I just think there are a lot of much better suited turbos out there that will accomplish the same thing but have better spool. If I am going to buy a turbo of this size I am not going to worry too much about a few hundred dollars. I would buy a 40r before I buy a t67 based on other people's experiences with these turbos.

Of coarse I would buy a 40r over a t67 but the price is a huge difference. I know Jack and his buddys here in the Springs have ran low 11's and high 10's up in the high altitude with ease on stock throttle body and intake mani's. If your running a 2.0L than you want to rev at least to 9000rpm or run a stroker.

I went 10.9 on a little gt30r.

t67 is awesome tho. Pat, if I gave you a ride in it, you would love it. However, I cracked a cylinder wall and had transmission problems. My trans would not shift, so I granny shifted my way to an 11.5 @ 129 at esta, and when I say granny shifting, I mean, I shifted SLOW. I did go 11.3 at lebanon valley at 25psi tho. I was aiming for 35psi but I had a huge boost leak on the compressor cover. And for the money, I would stay with a t67 over a 40r. They are nearly identical when it comes to how much power they can make.

Lusby, MD, i use to live there. What a shithole that place is. Where in lusby? If i would recommend a turbo, it would the T4Z. It spools very nice, and has tons of power to put out. Gixxerdrew just put down 660 with 640 tq with that turbo. I would also look into the holset turbos if possible. They spool a little quicker and pack just as much punch.

Holset HX40 with a flow rate of 69 lbs/min that could possibly make low 700s hp and starts pulling in the high 3000 or low 4000 comparable to the GT3076R spooling. Plus you can get it for a quarter of the price and it is much more reliable and a cheap rebuild. But if you want more power there is the HX52 with a flow rate of 90 lb/min capable of making 900 hp spooling somewhere in the 5000s I belief.

You cannot have both the power and the quickest spool time, but I'd say the HX40 the best combo. Even though the S366 and 37R are capable of a 100 more hp the HX40 will fully spool to the high 20s before either one of them has even begin to spool and will leave them in the dust.

well basically now im trying to get into the high 600 low 700 mark on race. what would be the fastest spooling turbo out there to do that with? I will be reving to 9k and I have all supporting mods.

Next time you talk to brad ask him about brandons turbo (thats me) then call Ams up, and ask them for the 850r. be done with it.

the "dsmhta88" from fp is garbage imo, I know of one car with it, boost response was terrible, far to laggy, and didnt hit hard when it came into boost, might be good for fwd maybe...dont waste money on it.

my experience with the 850r is as follows, I made 603awhp on a 35r in aug' 07 on a stock bottom end (the thread is on this site somewhere) and that was at 34psi, ive been driving the new turbo (850r) for the last couple weeks, in short, it kicks the 35r's ass in spool time, and makes more power than a t-67 based turbo, the car feels faster on 31psi than it did the day it came off the dyno, hands down. And spools 150rpm SOONER in second gear, and 300rpm sooner in third. Hands down its the best street turbo out right now, and its cheaper than the Fp stuff.

my .02

**edit** I know of 2 cars making over 700whp on this turbo, one evo making "760+" @ something like 44psi and a dsm making 706 in the 37psi range.

This is a lower boost test, hope it shows up, never loaded pics on here before.
