Well to start a bit of history; I bought my 2g awd dsm for $2500, with a few mods (walbro 255, upgraded suspension, new wheels and tires, act 2100, full N1), a peeling carbon fiber hood and a few other tidbits. A very traceable history as well, he was the 2nd owner. The chassis is clean, I mean with a good detail the interior and exterior would look mint.

The bad; I was told the engine had a spun bearing...car is also came missing the exhaust manifold, turbo and injectors.

I already located a stock pulled motor which I paid $250 for...also picked up a big 16g turbo and manifold for it. Still locating fuel rail and injectors.

I originally wanted to just do a quick swap and have the car run around for a while, building the motor outside of the car (2.4L block w/2G DOHC head)...

But something doesn't sit right with me using a unknown condition stock motor...I was just wondering do you think it would be worth having the motor, freshened up by a machine shop and doing a stock rebuild using the existing components...replacing the frangible and worn units? (Pretty much an engine rebuild kit, minus the pistons and better choices of parts, other than the ebay packages (aka topline))

Also what would a stock rebuild like that run me on average?

Questions, thoughts, concerns?

Thanks,
Mark

MAP in MN, charges about total of $3000 for a long block with the motor in the car, but your in NY so that woudnt help. Try JNZ Tuning in PA. Their prices are pretty cheap. Just my opinion. :)

That doesn't sound right; $3k for a stock rebuild?

I can have a full manley built motor for that price...
