I have had my Talon for about a year and I think its about time for me to start a build journal to keep track of everything I have done and my plans for the future.
Okay so here is a little background on myself and my little beast
I'm 22 years old have always worked in the family business ( restaurants ) I have always had an interest in mechanics and electronics. when I was 5 years old (1995) I saw my first 2g talon and fell in love I wanted one then and I finally got one almost a year ago to date.
She was completely stock when I purchased her, had a solid frame very little rust for being a 1996 in this horrendous New England weather. BUT!! the engine was blown. I picked up the shell for 700$ which was not too bad, searched on the forums for a few week and found a good 7 bolt long block for 600$ drove out to New Jersey later that week to pick it up. Finally, I thought I had my childhood dream car.
Having no mechanical experience what so ever ( I'm a Chef ) friend pointed me in the direction of a mechanic, what I had asked from originally was for him to swap in my new engine, change the fluids, change the belts, basically just get me up and running. SO from there he spent 2 months trying to "diagnose" a no spark on cyl 2/3 it was only throwing misfire codes so I had no idea what was causing it. I ended up taking the car home when my bill was around 1200$.
It was still having the same no spark on 2/3 so I came to the forums and started searching, me not knowing anything spent the first month or so searching for things that cause misfires. I changed out a bunch of things during this time spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil pack, fuel injectors, fuel injector resistor pack, ecu, 1G CAS, probably a few other things I don't remember.. Finally I figured out that I was chasing the wrong problem. A childhood friend and a fellow DSM enthusiast knew what the problem was as soon as I explained it, went to the junk yard and picked up a power transistor and my problem was solved. Along the way I was putting parts aside for when I got my car running properly to start upgrading. I learned quite a bit about this stuff doing all the work myself.
Here's a quick photo of the Talon over the summer

The Shopping List:
DSMLink V3 Full
FMIC- Have my eyes on one from a supporting vendor
Tial BOV - ^^
FP Exhaust Manifold
Cyclone Intake Manifold ( mainly because I like the way it looks in the bay )
Headlights a couple other things to get my inspection sticker
after I pick up that stuff (hopefully when i get my tax returns) I think I'm going to be rolling out with that until next winter. By then I am hoping to have a place with a garage that I can work out of, if I do I'm going to start tearing down and rebuilding my block/head and shaving my engine bay and maybe a new paint job.
First things I've done (over the past few weeks)
some home made wiring all soldered w/ new terminals
-rewired my battery terminals grounds w/ 0 gauge, 4 gauge to ecu, 0 gauge to alternator (definitely overkill but I have an aftermarket system to put in)
Installed the alternator / clutch master / slave / battery.
started cutting out my old exhaust yesterday (oh it was so much fun
) its almost out completely just one hanger and removal of the old o2 sensor left
soaked the exhaust manifold bolts with liquid wrench hopefully I can get them off tomorrow
Installed the Boost Controller
Right now my car is sitting outside of my work up on jack stands ripped apart cant wait to get on the road hopefully I will be running by spring
My current game plan
Remake 1G CAS Wiring (had one made for me and its not so pretty)
think I'm going to be pulling my engine wiring harness tomorrow to clean up those wires and recover everything oddly I find electrical work fun
get all the parts I have installed and start refinishing my interior
that's it for me tonight thanks for reading I'll get some pictures up tomorrow or the next
