Yes I searched, and I didn't find answers for FWD.

Well I need a new transmission, and my friend has a used 2g for sale. I just wanted to know if it is a direct replacement, or will I need to modify anything to make it work?

Thanks.

It won't work because the front diff splines, where the CV shafts go into, are a lot bigger. IOW, your 1G shafts won't fit. Starter shield is different too I believe...

Hmm I thought there was plenty members here on the boards RUNNING 2g AWD transmissions in 1g CARS, and no one can still tell me what to do when using a JDM EVO 3 Transmission in a 1G AWD

I would think that running a 2G tranny would be easieer to mount in a 1G since the 2G tranny has 3 mounts on it. In a 1G the front and rear mounts are on the motor instead of on the tranny like in a 2G. I have a 1G tranny in my 2G. I had to tap new mounting holes in the rear crossmember to shift it over so that I could mount a rear mount to the block instead of the tranny. And I just dont have a front mount at all. Never had a problem. Prothane mounts help too. As far as the axles go, my 2G axles had no problem fitting into the tranny and it has never leaked. Now I have an AWD. I am not 100% sure about FWD axles if there is a difference between 1G and 2G. One more thing, you will need to swap your shifter cable mount, so keep the 1G mount to align the cables right. Found that one out the hard way.

Also, one more thing. You will have to change over the speedo gear in the back of the tranny. A 2G has an electrical plug in type gear and the 1G has the cable type that you screw into the speedo gear. Also change your axle seals on the tranny before you install, last thing you want to do is more work if one happens to leak after puttin all back together. If your not to sure about the axle fitting into the tranny, maybe pull the axle out and fit it into the tranny before you buy it just to make sure. Its extra work, I know, but if fits then you will have that peace of mind.

2G tranny does NOT fit in a 1G. I have no idea why peypey is giving you information on how to swap a 1G tranny into a 2G as that's not what you're trying to do haha. However, you can crack the 2G tranny open and use some of the internals for your 1G tranny. If I need to elaborate more on that I will, but it sounds like you're just needing a tranny all together and don't want to go through the hassle of 2G internals in a 1G tranny.

The AWD front diffs are different than the FWD. He has a FWD. You can do it to an AWD because the front shafts are all the same size, but the FWD 2G units were bigger.

I have a 2g awd tranny in my 1g, but mine is AWD not FWD. Can anybody else verify that the fwd and different spline count 1g to 2g. On the awd they are the same for both.
Heres what I did.

A: Use the 1g mount setup.
B: Took out the little extention piece (not sure of its real name) that mounts the shift cables to the trans. I used 1g cable mounts, but I slightly bent one of the two sides so the cable lined up a little better. I used 1g cables too.
C: Ovaled out the bolt holes in the starter plate.

I think thats all I did. I dont have a 1g fwd trans to check, but i know at least that 1g awd and 2g fwd outputs are different (2g fwd is bigger than 1g awd). If 1g awd and 1g fwd have the same output sizes (somebody else might be able to answer that one) then it wont work. Unless you did something with your halfshafts. Anybody know if you can mix and match the halfshaft ends? Just an idea, I dont have any fwd shafts to look at. Anybody have any other ideas?

Thanks guys for your replies. I decided to send my trans out for rebuilding, the 2g trans in a 1g fwd seems near impossible to do.

I know that AWD shafts are the same but wasnt to sure about the FWD shafts.
