1G 2g trans works in 1g?

For anyone who swapped transmissions did you use a 1g or 2g starter

There is no dowel for the starter. The only dowels are for the front and rear bell housing holes. Is it the rear bell housing bolt that you are talking about. By the way a 1g or 2g starter will work as long as it matches the trans, auto or 5 speed.

Maybe thats what my problem is, I have a auto starter in, it just click when I try to turn the key.

A 5-speed starter should bolt right on up. 2g starter plate (MD167356). Starter bolts are MF140270 x2 , rear mounting bolt is MD706012.

Two dowels are only on the block to mount the transmission to; both lower block mounts. Dowel part number is MD020260 x2.

I switched to a 5 speed same issues

My 1990 fwd f5m33 is about to explode and I have a 2g fwd tranny sitting in my shed I can use to replace it. I read on here that the axels are bigger for the 2g tranny, does anyone know if the 2g fwd axels will fit length wise? I read on a write up 2g fwd into a 1g that the passenger side is to long but he didn't finish his write up can anyone confirm this?

Axle lengths I believe are different but you can always simply swap the inner CV joints I believe. The bar splines should be the same

Another question I forgot to ask is, the spare transmission that I have is a KF5M332SPZT and the transmission in my 90 is a F5M332SPZS. Dose the SPZT have bigger splines than the SPZS?

1989.06-1992.06.3 build date (june 1989 - June 1992) have the same front differential housing, pinion gears. The transmissions associated with this age range is (K)F5M33-2-SPZS and SPZV. The 1990-1992 FWD units had 25-spline axles with a driver side axle length of 37.75", and a passenger side length of 24".

1992.07.1 - 1995.06.3 build date (July 1992 - June 1995) have the same front differential housing, and pinion gears. The diff housing and pinion gears received an updated part number in 1995.07.1-1999 range. The transmissions associated with this age range is 1992-94 (K)F5M33-2-SPQV and 1995-1999 (K)F5M33-2-SPZT. The July 1992-1999 use 27-spline axles with a driver side axle length of 37.65" and a passenger side length of 25.15".

The 1990-1992 axles and 1992-1999 axles all share the same outer CV joint size and spline count, just the inner cups changed from the smaller diameter 25-spline to the larger diameter 27-spline. The 1995-1999 axles were all the same diameter and length. The 1990-1994 axles were all the same length, but the variation of the inner CV joint spline count.

Good enough explanation?

I thought I would follow up on this as I have completed the swap. the hardest part I would say was getting the starter holes and the hole for the starter itself reamed out it fit just right. I read in another article that they swapped the vertical shifter arm and bent the crap out of the horizontal shifter arm. There is no need for this as I just swapped the bracket that holds the cables and removed the rubber bushings to slid it forward. I ordered axles for a 93 -94 for $100 new from amazon and they fit like a glove. The transmission to block bolt far right towards the radiator needs to be replaced with a longer bolt( about a 1/4 inch) as well as slave cylinder bolts need to be longer. Drives and shifts great. Twicks69 thanks for info.
