2G Talon Tsi 450AWHP Build. First DSM

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Been a whole month since I posted. Still working bit by bit on the talon. My VRSF core came in, I have yet to get enough time to actually mount it. I got my lateral arms and control arms installed.

Finally gave in and bought all of my brake items at once from Revworks. Seemed to be a great deal for the product offered, and boy I was not disappointed.

SAM_1319_zps8021f759.jpg

Slotted front and rears
Hawk HPS pads
Russel SS lines

All of it is very high quality items. I was surprised with the russel lines due to their individual price. I was surprised of their quality. If I ever decide to upgrade to a larger or more aggressive (4000 series) rotor I know where to go.

Coming up soon....No idea. Probably the rear suspension and camber kits. Once that is finished I may look toward the fuel setup.

Comments and suggestions are welcome as always!

Great work man! Keep it up. My 1g drained the bank, but all worth it in the end. Wingless is the way to go.

I cant tell how that shifter looks without the center console on. I'm debating buying the same one, just wondering the quality/feel of it. If u can, shoot a picture up when u get the center console on, and let me know how its feels. The build looks great man keep up the good work!

If you give me a day or so I can throw the center console back in and snap a few pics. I love the feel though, feels very solid, fitment was spot on and all the parts were nice.

If I were to have a complaint it would be the shift knob itself. I know its going to get hot as hell in the summer and the overall size is not big at all. Its weird because your hand almost wraps around itself. I may order this knob though:

oem_evo_blue_aluminum_shift_knob.jpg

Yea i was a little concerned about the Jam nut that goes under the knob. Does the knob itself thread on??? Because i wanted to look into getting a different knob that would thread onto the shifter. Thats refreshing that you say it feels solid, was worried about the overall quality of it. Does the throw feel shorter?

I like that shift knob too =D

Yes the knob itself threads on. The jam nut is just there to stop it from threading all the way down(which makes the letters crooked). I love the feel of it. I have it set to 50% and the throw is very short and solid.
I didnt get around to putting the console in today, I had a double tie rod failure on my DD so that had to get taken care of LOL. I should have pics up tomorrow after work

SAM_1724_zps226e446f.jpg

Other than that I did the fuel siphon mod on my fuel pump and ordered a whole batch of parts from ExtremePsi. Just a few more parts to order and she should be able to be assembled and start throwing parts at it left and right!

Very nice build bro. Mad props to you. You motivate me to be better organized when doing my build. I tend to just click ad to cart ad to cart etc etc and buy buy buy buy everything and end up with stuff I don't need. I mean I spent like 12-15k on my first build going from a fully stock car I mean completely stock to a 434fwhp gsT with a stock motor, head, and trans. You see the problem? Where the heel did all that money go LOL now I'm on my second go around with this car and I've spent almost the same but less and am going to have fully blue printed block forged everything and port and ploished head the works. I literally just told my wife to bring me some paper and a pen so I can start prginizing better. Thanks again bro for that little push tht I needed. I love this build and can't wait to see that first start up. Good luck on whatever your doing with this lovely car.

I appreciate the kind words and Im glad its given you some motivation. Its been a struggle for sure for me. Several times of nearly selling the car and almost parting it out once in the past 2 years. I have officially crossed the $10,000 mark including the price of the car. I am really hoping to have it done before xmas but I see presents for the family digging into the build fund(ok with me). So I set a realistic goal of March for my birthday. I dont have a whole lot left, but what I do have left is the most expensive LOL. That first startup has me very nervous though.

Picked up some more goods from ExtremePsi:

BSPT Plug
OEM Flywheel Bolts
Balance Shaft elimination spacer and plug.(gonna make my own shaft).
More -an fittings to get the fuel system ran.

Did a little bit of work last night when I got home. Got the intake manifold painted as well as the throttle body elbow. Nobody likes rust, but oxidizing aluminum is just as bad and ugly LOL.

SAM_1736_zps2f06e958.jpg

I also ported the oil galleys on the block per Bogus SVO's instruction.

Rough cut
SAM_1733_zps9b6ee32b.jpg

Final pass with a dremel smooth stone(dont have any smaller tips to get into the corners).
The passages look rough but they are smooth to the touch.
SAM_1735_zps29e2daed.jpg

Here soon I am going to be dry fitting everything in the engine bay(without crank or internals). Just so I can get all of my wiring taken care of. Most of my plugs are broken and the wire is brittle. Really wish I had the $$$ for a milspec harness. Along with that Ill find a place to mount my AFPR, fuel filter, run my new battery lines, overflow tank. And possibly start building a downpipe.

From there this is what is left:

To-Do list:
Install rear control arm bushings
Mount gauges and run wiring
Make or buy gauge mounting vent
clutch safety switch disable
run fuel lines
Install rev works slotted rotor and pad kit

What I have left to buy:
Forged clutch fork
Clutch(South bend)
Catch Can(calan)
camber kit(need advice on this one)
Send the valve cover off for the baffle and an fittings to be welded on
bov spring for my tial
inner tie rods(debating on pulling the power steering altogether)
Turbo/downpipe
Pistons(thinking ross 9.1 compression)
Tuning software Either a 98/99 flashable ecu to get it up and running or an Evo 8 ecu)
Wheels and tires
Timing kit/engine gasket kit

Wish me luck!

I know how much work, (and money :shhh: ) it takes to restore a car that someone else has neglected so it feels great watching someone take on the same task as me. I'm just about at that 10k mark too and there's still so much to get to, including painting it which will take up a good chunk of change. I wish you luck and i'll keep watching your progress :hellyeah:

Haha yeah paint was left out of the budget. It will make me cry. I do have a paint gun though just need a compressor more suitable for the job. Best of luck with yours as well

Finally got a day off to get some work done...and I slept half of the day away XD. Still managed to get the rest of the gasket off of my front cover and get my stubby shaft made. I would up cutting it down from the OEM shaft. Let me know what you think!

Homemade shaft on the left, old stubby shaft on the right. I will no be using the stubby shaft. It has no oiling hole.

Probably gonna head back out and try to get the rest of my fuel line installed as well as try to find my main cradle bolts.

Patience is running thin here lately. Seems like I find more problems than I can solve. I did get to go back down today. Pulled the exhaust out and come to find out it is a Ractive 3" with Apexi DP instead of the Greddy 3" I was told.

Hoping to get the REAR LCA Bushings in tomorrow if time permits.

And now Im off to order some more parts!

You, of all people, running thin of patience. Lol noooo. Just take your time bro, you got this in the bag. Your ideas and plans for the car are going like they should and without little blips in the build here and there, then hey what kinda build is that?? And I know what you mean by finally getting a day off. I used to be a full time tattoo artist and last week got the opportunity to work at a machine shop rebuilding heads, rotor, drums, flywheels, milling heads, grinding valves/tipping them etc and now I have no time to work on my car and my dead line is oct10th. I get Sunday and Monday off and I finally got my block back and the dam guy didnt even gap the rings, and I'm not even sure if he did my PTW so my new boss said bring it in Monday (today) and we'll measure everything and assemble it all if everything checks out. He is going to gap the rings as well. So I guess I'm a little blessed with that, but what I'm saying is I guess I also know how you feel when you say your patience is running thin. It's never an easy task to do all this stuff with a time limit and a budget. Now if we were rich and had no jobs then hey, we would all be doing builds more than once a year LOL.

What I found to help a little with me is instead of looking at the main piece of paper that shows you everything you have left to do, I make a to do list (a reasonable one) for each day that I get to work on the car. And if I finish the list then I feel good about it you know. God bless and Good luck bro, just take your time and it will all fall into place.

Thank you and God Bless you as well.

I did the whole To-Do list thing....OCD kicked in and it got ugly. But on the upside I put in yet another order through ExtremePsi so be sure to check back Thursday/Friday for more updates. I should have some pics up sometime this week as well.
